I think thats what they are called :-\ Anyway how come i stick to the 60mph speed limit and loads and loads of drivers zoom past at 70-80 :-\ Are these drivers just stupid or do they know the cameras are not working :-\ M1 btw .

You mean Average speed cameras?
I see the same, most people don't get the concept of "Average" ::)
Went down to coast few months back, again Average camera section. Digital sign said 128 offences that week! :o

Yeah thats it tunnie :y I see it all the time , even lorries overtaking me ??? Most of the cars in the fast lane seem oblivious to any speed camera , noticed the same thing happens on the M6 .

Average speed over a set distance.
You can do 80 in a 60 provided you slow down to 40 for the same amount of time within the two cameras, then your average will still be 60. ...for example.
Reality is its quite hard to get cought. Plus if you time it right you can be next to a lorry and the camera can't see you.
Its rumoured they don't work if you change lanes in the duration too.
Personally, I don't think they work too well.

A23 ::) don't see how they have so many offences tbh, your lucky if you get to do much over 30 through those roadworks...

Thats about the only way I think, tailgate a truck or even a car entering the section?
Still is it worth the risk? I just slap the cruise on to what ever is the limit, its not often for very far, few miles?

Cameras are usually temporary down this way, so are rear facing positioned at the side of the road. Lorry in lane 1, just sit next to it in lane 2. Gantree mounted ones would probably need a lorry behind maybe? We don't get them down here so much.
But no probably not worth it.

They're permanent. Can't mess with them. As said, we only get the temporary ones down 'ear.

It is to the deaf. ;) ;D

These ones are overhead and have the markers on the road in front ??? And the ones near us are the blue fixed post ones that time you , but you still get overtaken and tailgated by lorries >:(
And cars in a 50 zone going 10 mph over the limit , so they must be getting caught out and fined :-\

That tends to happen in an omega. ;D

Truck speedos are a damn site more accurate than car ones. If a truck is gaining on you, then you're going slower than you think...
Get a wriggle on, or get over it ::)

we have then on the m 20 as it is NOW a variable speed limit road now and tbh i see so many go through at 70 when the signs say 50 and i never see them flash....thats if they do???

It dont bother me , ill stick to the speed limit in the zone ::) Those that want to risk points on the licence are welcome to it but just seems very strange they are speeding without any care of consequences :-\
-
Fair dos, but when a truck speedo says 80 kmh (50 mph) that is the speed it is doing. When your speedo in the car says 50 mph you're probably only doing 46-47mph. At a steady cruise, sat nav speeds are a better guide to your actual speed than your speedos best guess :y

Idon,t think that average speed ones flash, do they?
-
Nope simply records video :y
The computer then mines the number plates and records the time you pass each camera. Because the cameras are fixed, the distance between each one is known. It's then a simple calculation to work out your speed from the time it has taken you to pass between any two cameras. If your average speed is over a preset threshold then you get a snotty letter in the post :y
By the time you reach the next junction the letter could be printed and on its way :-\
-
These ones are overhead and have the markers on the road in front ???
They are simply Gatso's, they can't do average speed and you can see which gantries have them mounted as you approach so you know when to brake.
And the ones near us are the blue fixed post ones that time you ,
The blue ones are TrafficMaster cameras, nothing to do with recording speed.
-
Think he has the specs ones up his way.
-
They install those yellow half arch posts for the temporary ones round here, but have seen blue versions of the same elsewhere which are permanent :-\

They are for traffic monitoring (eg, Traffic Master), not for recording your speed.

The blue fixed ones have 3 cameras , one for each side of the road ... before entering the zone it says average speed cameras 50 mph , each camera is equal distance apart and there is 4 of them . People doing at least 65-70 :(
The ones overhead is in a zone that states average speed cameras .. max speed 60 , folks doing 75-80 ???
Ive seen them brake before the markings on the road before the cameras :y

They are for traffic monitoring (eg, Traffic Master), not for recording your speed.
Traffic monitoring cameras are mounted at the side of the road, with a single camera facing down the road and a single camera facing up it.
Average speed cameras are mounted on a half arch over the nearside edge of the road, and have two or more cameras all facing the oncoming traffic and are either yellow (temp) or blue (permanent).
Hiding behind/alongside trucks is a gamble, as you only need to be seen by two cameras to get an average speed. The speed can easily be measured between any two single cameras or over the entire stretch of all the cameras.
-
Don't speed simples!!! :y Says the man with 6 points and a Speed Awareness course under his belt! :-[ ;D
-
3 options
1 don't speed
2 rent a p/o box and regester your car to it
3 change a couple of didgits on your number plate if stopped its a 30 pound fine no points

In France you have to pay to use most of the big motorways that are privately run.
You stop and take a ticket at the start, and insert the ticket and pay when you leave. The amount you pay relates to the distance.
If the time taken is too short for the distance, I've heard that you can get nicked. It's never actually happened to me though. So if you've been tanking along the A26 from Calais, stop for a coffee before the next Peage.

Soon to be implemented in the uk :-X :D

Encountered loads of these on saturday on a run from cairnryan up to glasgow on A77. I normally just reset the average speed on trip comp. at every new camera and monitor my speed that way. If you have to go through a village/town it takes your avg speed way down so you can then do whatever speed you like until the next one as long as your avg speed stays below the stated. I have always done this on that particular rd and never got caught once. Touch wood!!
