The throttle body full of oil? What part exactly  ???

There is the thin breather pipe from the cam cover, this should be clear. The throttle body itself can get covered in crude but not liquid oil.

Plugs? Using Water?

Large amounts of white smoke still points to using water, if the smoke has a grey tint to it, more likely oil.

Either way, if you are seeing "plumes" of smoke, its burning a fluid one way or another  ;)

Smoke out the exhaust means its burning a fluid of some kind, in cold weather due to the size of the exhaust system on the Omega, it can "smoke" fair bit in the cold mornings, but this is nothing more than moisture from the system burning off as it heats up.

In this hot weather we have currently, plus you say its on the return journey means the exhaust is up to temp, so its burning something.

Grey-ish/White tint to smoke = Water/coolant
Blue-ish/dark tint to the smoke = Oil

Look very closely and monitor the coolant & oil levels.

ralf. why did you do everything that way round  ie;

cam gasket
breathers
oil change

Dont you think breathers should be first   ???

Inspect plug wells & remove them checking for oil

Is it just burning residue spillage off from the cam gasket  :-\

Any oil down the plugs would be quite quickly burned off, within first few miles.

I know that from dropping a load of oil down the 3.0 V6 plugs, from a cam gasket. Clouds of smoke on start up but soon goes!

why ..
Title: Re: cam gasket
Post by: tunnie on 05 July 2013, 14:59:19
Why? Because you have a load of oil in the cylinder bore. Once sealed up with a spark plug, the bore will ignite the oil creating a shit load of smoke as you are burning it off....

White smoke - water
Blue smoke - oil
Black smoke - fuel

I assume in the 4 pot cam cover there is a gauze or filter to stop oil going into TB? Not played with one for so long, can't remember...

Is yours an auto?

If it is an auto it is easy to connect the auto box breather pipe to the engine breather by mistake (it is on a V6 anyway)

Symptoms are then as described, during periods of high vacuum (idling & deceleration) the engine sucks transmission fluid out of the gearbox and burns it.....

Feel like I'm talking to myself here  :-\

No wonder the cam cover's leaking Wilf ... ATF's as thin as Pontlottyn p*ss ... surprised that the motor's still actually running :o

The smoke's probably the pistons/rings ripping the bores to shreds.

Yes, mainly because an awful lot of crud builds up in the Throttle Body if the breathers have been neglected and there is a small drilling on the side of the body that is connected by a thin vacuum tube to the fuel rail pressure regulator which can get blocked and cause fueling problems.

Well since putting 10/40 semi in mine its started smoking and hasnt stopped , all the breathers have been cleaned quite a few times and still no joy  :( Im going to use a thicker oil and see if that cures it , only other thing is inferior oil  :( Its the same set up as ralfs .

Also there is a small breather from the rocker cover , mine was blocked on the throttle body  :(

Lots of advice offered, however I think I would get further by doing this.... (http://www.mersenneforum.org/images/smilies/extra/bangheadonwall.gif)

Inspect plug wells & remove them checking for oil

Lets just run over this once more.

1) Car was running fine
2) You decided to change cam cover gasket
3) After the work, straight away it started smoking/running poorly
4) You decide to scrap the car & go into debt on a replacement

Yet you've had offers to look at it from Seth?

Similar to your Sky install issues, I offered time & time again to raise this internally to be fixed, but constantly ignored.

Again, Seth is offering here but you've chosen to get a new car? This is coming from the person who is always stating they have no money  ???

Seth, I need to borrow your wall......

And replaced with what? Any other car will need work doing, ask EMD.

Clearly you need to trace your steps and see where you went wrong. Everyone else manages to do the job no problem.

Don't be so bloody rediculous. You've spent your entire life telling us you don't want to spend money, now you peeing money up the wall by paying dealer prices. Because you can't follow a simple procedure.

I've never heard such rubbish. Is this some sort of winde up?

On top of all this though you seem to take great delight in irritating other members on here, arguing and taking the opposite view to cause arguments, then ask the same people to help you, then wonder why they are a bit cheeky in their responses and take some sort of offence.

There is no helping you. You won't be told, know everything, yet can't complete the simplest procedure, yet its the cars fault.

Get a grip, re check your work, go over it again and fix it. There is nothing more anyone can do from the wrong end of a keyboard.

Sorry Ralf, but do yourself a favour and apply some focus on the problem you have, instead of wasting money on a bag full of more problems.

Late in the day I know, but summat quite basic's caused this problem.

Obstructed breather/throttle body needing a thorough cleaning, would've been where I'd have initially focussed attention. I did offer ... and didn't expect any financial gain either ... ah well etc ::)

Whatever, hope Alf's happy with his new motor and enjoys his holiday! ;)

You are in dreamland thinking a 7 year old yank design car, won't need any work.

Also dreaming if you think they will easily take it back at, with a fault, any dealer will fight any claim as it impacts very fine profit margins.

People like Warrenty Direct will use every trick in the book, to not pay out  ;)

My sentiments exactly.

Twice I offered to help, then wished him well with his new motor and his holiday.
Also invited him to join-in with some banter and wind-ups on his last night of Omega ownership.

Not even an acknowledgement ... ah well ya lives 'n' learns I suppose! ???

Indeed. Like you many times I offered to help, but to have Sky installers around to fix his issues described he here, but again same as you no acknowledgement not even "Thanks for the offer"  >:(

Had people around within days sometimes of issues reported here. With great results :)

Hence my comment on his new little s* box  ::)  ;D
