Title: Heathrow
Post by: Entwood on 04 July 2013, 12:37:45
At very short notice I have to collect someone from a flight into terminal 3 at around 6:30 tomorrow morning. I don't see why I should pay parking fees just to collect someone.... which is what the web site says :(

Does anyone know of somewhere 5 minutes away that I can sit and wait then just nip in, pick up, and go ??

I don't know the area or layout at all

Plenty of places down the north perimeter road that you can pull into (Hotels etc)

i'm sure you can go to passenger drop off and meet them there - you get a few minutes waiting time

Assume you have each others mobile numbers?

I'd park up in a Hotel on the North Perimeter Road, wait until your friend has landed. Get them to walk out to the Valet Parking bit:

Then call you. You just drive in, stop there for 10 seconds while they pile in, then go  :y

Good for you. I had the same thing at Leeds Bradford. My brother collected me in his van. £6 for five minutes. There is a motel just over the way. Easiest £6 to save.

Er, no.

Yes and no... many of the hotels have barriers on their carparks.

Word of caution Nige :-\ It is illegal to pick up from outside the Terminals at the drop off area. Has been for the last two years. Both the McDonalds on the Bath Rd (A4) have a strictly enforced 60 minute waiting limit.

Also if the Airport is busy, which T3 will be by then, it could take you half an hour to get anywhere near the terminal.

My advice would be to time your arrival 30 minutes after landing, park in the T3 short stay carpark. Go straight upto level 4/5, parking in the opposite corner from the ramp where you enter the floor. Then lift down to level 1 and it's a two minute walk into arrivals. Arrange to meet them by M+S in the Arrivals hall. It is the first place the pass on the left as they enter the Arrivals Hall. Timed right, you only pay for 30mins, is alot less stressfull than aimlessly driving round trying to find someone, and you both know where you will meet.  :y

Drop off has 5 lanes, only 3 of which are for public use. I have used 10 litres of fuel driving round and round in circles because the person I was trying to find didn't know where they were ::)

Also, a word of warning to anyone going to Gatwick, all Pick Up traffic must use the carparks. Police will move you on once, but if you are seen waiting anywhere near the Drop Off points, you will be ticketed under the Airport Byelaws and ordered off the site. The traffic marshalls at Gatwick have proven ineffective, so Sussex Police have taken over their resposibilities.

Pm sent btw :y

PM answered ... many thanks ... and the above has been printed and will be obeyed ..  :y :y Speed is of the essence so perhaps paying a few quid will be worth it. Appreciate the advice  :y :y :y

Just go & park by the bowling alley on the Bath Road, Failing that if you come off the left filter lane before the tunnel on the airport approach road (where the model plane is on the island), up to the lights & turn left to a village called Sipson there are plenty of places to park along there :y.Then tell them to buzz you when they are out of arrivals & by the time they make the exit doors you should be there.
