Title: Strange couple of days
Post by: pscocoa on 11 July 2013, 22:07:21
Yesterday my son and wife confirm that they are expecting a child in January - so looking forward to being a grandad again. Same time he confirms what we feared that his achelation problem cannot be treated without an op so he will be in hospital for a few days at end of month - so fingers crossed.

Then letter comes today more or less confirming that Council will not be trying to take my mother's house into account for care home charges - this is a big result. Separately letter comes from NHS that they need to reassess her needs - so another trip to Manchester in 2weeks and at same time her GP (again completely separately) has the results of her heart tests he wants to discuss.

Tonight - met with contractors about investigation into more damp in daughter's cellar ( it is already tanked)- looks like a big excavation around kitchen and dining room walls.

Contractors working in our house now also to repair damage from leak - so just got rid of industrial drier yesterday and waiting for discussion on reinstatement.

Also doing a job in between times!!!

Crikey! you've got your hands full and no mistake my friend! :o
I sincerely hope your lads Achalasia is not a pointer to anything more sinister and that his Op is done by Laparoscopy as this is far less invasive & means only a day or two in Hospital. Please pass on my Best Wishes and Congratulations to both him and his lady wife :y

Congratulations to your son and daughter-in-law on their baby  :y and I wish your son all the best with his operation.

It looks like you have your hands full at the moment.  :o So, good luck with getting all of your problems sorted.

Me Mum had her seller tanked. Utter disaster. Had a bilge pump installed in the end.

Congratulations too, and best of luck with the other stuff.  :y

Thanks to all for comments.

Chris - we started 7 years ago with sump pump, back up sump pump and battery back up system.

Worked fine for 3 years then water found its way elsewhere - so tanked all way round. 3 years on again damp appearing at ceiling joins only.

Cut back ceiling areas and not clear what is causing problem. It is a Victorian terraced (only one with a cellar). Seems that we have to either reduce ground level or put in membrane around affected areas externally.
