Some interesting stuff on here. Like number of people ever to have lived. Like the vast number that are alive now compared to how many were alive when you were born.
When I was born I was 2,657,525,798th alive
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-15391515
I remember a thread on the forum a few years back when the concept of 8 billion or even 9 billion was said to be unlikely in only a few years time. I am glad I will be gone by then. The pressure on food and water will be immense.

Just over three million. :)
3,016,456,127.....I think.

That reminds me of the historical figure parson Thomas Malthus, who in 1797, published An Essay on the Principle of Population that predicted the population of Great Britain would shortly (after 1797) outstrip the ability of the land to produce enough food. His predictions were taken very seriously at the time, and he was proposing a serious drive to reduce human re-productivity. Generally it was a very gloomy economic and social outlook, that of course was proved essentially incorrect, as he failed to recognise how mankind could develop and progress food production to meet a growing population.
The 8 or 9 billion people predicted by 2050 may well put the theories to the test again as some scientist have stated there will not be enough food producing land to support such a population. I may not see that day, but I would not bet against man again managing to produce enough food for everyone's needs. If not, maybe nature will step in again and enact a typical "population reduction" scheme! :( :( ;)

I have to disagree as 60% of the planet is covered in water, we just need to improve our water infrastructure to capture more rainwater and use it more efficiently. A Cambridge research institute has just produced a new strain of wheat which is more disease resistant than current varieties and produces 30% more grain per acre. They will have the seed commercially available by 2019. There are still many big productivity gains to made in many important agricultural areas of the world, including South America, Asia and Eastern Europe. The Russian and Ukrainian black-earth Steppes are one of the major breadbaskets of the world and if they had the same yields per acre as Western Europe and North America, they would produce between 1.5 and 2.5 times more grain. Market gardening particularly has very low productivity for the land area in most parts of the world outside of Western Europe and North America.
Until the industrial revolution populations were fairly static, due to starvation, tribal wars and disease. Since then we have relied on technology in all aspects of our lives to keep ahead of our needs. We have yet to run out of ANY resource. Thorium power stations and ever improving battery technology, will provide all the power we need for the next 1-2000 years. As long as the most important people on earth keep researching, designing and improving, technology, yes our R&D engineers and scientists to keep humanity ahead of the game, then I think the future is bright.
We are rapidly doing much more for less in terms of energy and materials required with ever improving technology and long may it continue. Personally I'm optimistic if the engineers and scientists are allowed to continue. The biggest danger is uneducated people and their superstitions, politicians and certain religions where I don't think we have yet got anywhere near to reaching humanities golden age.
In all Western countries we have major problems where our birth rates are below the 2.1 children per couple for replacement let alone any population growth. The UK birth rate is currently 1.6 and the lowest in Europe is Italy with 1.2. This is what is fueling migration along with our Ponzi scheme pensions.

No, so there must have been more than one Adam and Eve. :o :o :o
I blame Chinese whispers, where the Romans did not write the new Testament until well after the event. ???

I am number--3,374,788,138 give or take a couple ;D ;D

Well for me there was just 2.6 billion alive when I arrived! :o :o :o
It has all happened since then ;D ;D ;D ;)

How accurate is it though, it didnt ask what time I was born.
3,085,110,829th (1 day later)
Difference = 156324 in 24 hours ( 6513.5 per Hour)

The population has nearly doubled since then apparently :o
There is a popular theory that says the human race will become unsustainable and die out completely within the next 1-200 years.
There's a cheery thought for you...

I was the 4,582,064,947th person, apparently.

What worries me is that the graph is not interpolated correctly.
It looks, to me like an exponential curve up to now.
It has then been interpolated (guessed) as a straight line after now.
If you follow the curve, it's going to be nearer 20 billion by 2050 :o
ALL populations are self-limiting - whether by resources or disease.
Resources can include "liebensraum" - and the last time that was an issue, there was a very big drop in population size, especially in Europe :(

When I looked at the graph, it looked like it slowed down after 2050.

Hmmmmm there are 23 known imigrants every hour >:( >:(
There you go I've fixed that for you.
The back garden shanty town sheds in west London are of terrifying proportions with some London boroughs talking about 40-50000 or more unknowns than the 2011 census shows from their school numbers and the drain on other services. Many of these sheds are occupied by illegals.
Councils are now employing special teams including Slough using an RPV with IR sensors to find the heated shed. But the law states that a council must give at least 24 hours notice of an inspection, so many are turned into gyms or games rooms for the inspection period and if they have been there for more than 4 years even without planning permission then they are allowed to keep them. This is all crazy but true. :o :o :o :o

not quite ½ way to today's figure :o
Amazing that world population has more than doubled in 51 years. ???
I read somewhere, that it won't be long before India's population will be greater than China's due to China's policy of actively encouraging one child per couple with major sanctions to 2+ families. Unfortunately the countries which have the greatest population growth are generally those where land is used ineffectively and deforestation for fuel leads to further land erosion & greater risk to flash flooding. >:(
I can't see this getting any better in the short term due to corrupt, self interested, short sighted and or inept politicians. When the UN and/or the G12 countries pull their collective finger out and give aid in a way that improves infrastructure and resource usage (rather than fill the pockets of the officials at all levels down) and educates the populace. If this happens then there is a chance that populations that are increasing at an unsustainable rate will implement a level self control of family size, etc.
Personally, I think that religions and the cultures they create are partly to blame, if they taught about the impact of overpopulation be it on a small scale or world wide it would help and educate at the same time. That said, it's not in their interest to show restraint in that way. :(
And another 5186 people have been added to the world population as I type :o
