I am following GastronomicKleptomaniac's excellent maintenance guide. Fitting new starter, he says 'Wiggle the starter into place, refit top bolt by a few threads' and here I am stuck. I am working from above, I seem to be able to get the starter into place, though it is able to rotate about 60 degrees, then I strive to fit the top bolt. It is difficult to locate the point where the hole is aligned with the thread, and impossible to turn the bolt when i think it is in the right place.
What am I doing wrong?

I did it from below Terry, took half an hour only. :y one jack and one axle stand I used there, the stand to the chassis and the jack to the engine, remove the coolant bottle having a bit more place to work easily and come on! I was removing the engine mount then the starter. A little bit I had to lift on the engine when removing the mount but was no more disturbing circumstance. Good luck ! :y

Well done! I have changed four starters on 2 litre Omegas, but I could see what I was doing then. This job seems to be all done by touch.
Which bolt did you put in first, top or bottom?

Having done an alternator recently, I would have presumed to go from underneath. Would that help access? :-\

Thanks for help, Johnny and Chris. I finally got the bottom bolt in, working from below, by propping the starter in with a piece of timber and turning it round poking an allen key through the bottom hole in the starter until I located the thread in the flywheel housing. Then I screwed in bottom bolt, then top bolt went straight in.
I found it a difficult job. I take off my hat to Johnny, doing it in half an hour.
