Post by: Andy663 on 21 July 2013, 15:13:55
At what temperature do the radiator cooling fans kick in at?

Thanks for that. Generally, what's the normal operating temperature for driving around town and for motorway driving?

I've owned 4 V6 Omega's..... It varies, a lot.

On two of the four, the cooling fans hardly ever cut in, even in heavy traffic on a hot day.  My first and my current Omega, the fans cut in if stationary for more than 3 or 4 minutes.  :y

There's three fans effectively.

Stage 1 is the low speed of the main engine cooling fan behind the radiator pack.

Stage 2 is the high speed setting of the main fan

Stage 3 is the two fans in front of the radiator pack ( assuming you have aircon )

I'd have to look up the exact temperatures for them to operate.

If you're worried about temperature, simply turning on the aircon will operate the twin fans (stage 3). They're on all the time the aircon is on.

and yes, Omegas do vary greatly in their normal running temperature. I've had cars that normally run at 3/4 gauge and others that run at 1/4
