Before the HBV finally gives up and dies are they prone to giving out hot air one side and cold the other from the vents ?..... Believe its gone now as steam wafting up from that area but had heat issues last few weeks
-
Suspect a different problem unless it's losing coolant :-\
HBV failure is highlighted by coolant loss which increases/decreases depending on the climate settings :y
-
Only started to lose water today and steam everywhere but as i said permanent heat on drivers side despite set to ' low'..... Hoping may have been linked somehow..
-
Had four HBVs fail on me, and not one of them resulted in steam :-\
Split hose perhaps :-\
The temperature controls are vaccum motors in the front foot wells, above the front end of the centre console. It is not unknown for the arms to become disconnected.
-
is it an easy fix? will my cuppa tea go cold doing that job?
-
Does the passenger side switch between hot and cold as expected?
-
yes it does
-
Ok, remove the trim from under the glove box, and carefully reach over the front edge of the centre console, the servo is there. Ignition on, fan on its slowest setting and turn the passenger temp from Lo to Hi and back again. You should be able to see/hear/feel the servo moving the arm :-\
Do the same thing the other side, the servo should still move, but if the arm is detached, that won't move :y
-
As Al says ^^^ or seats full back, get upside down in the seat, head in the footwells ..... you can just about see the actuators and the arms ... get someone to sit in the other seat and make the selections for you !!
-
ok guys i shall give that a go tomorrow.... i have just changed the HBV and im covered in scratches and sweating like gary glitter in a nursery....

Clearly not trying hard enough, go stand in the corner

I've only replaced mine twice in over 10 yrs ??? ;) ;) ;)

I shall never attempt to do this again..... almost burst into tears on occasions

But you suceeded? Well done :y
-
bugger 'dangle berries'.... wasnt the HBV after all... something else leaking behind there... :-\
-
Cooler plate, coolant bridge and the curly rubber pipe are next favourites.
Remove plenum, and join the throttle body hoses. Remove coolant cap, and blow hard into it (sealing if poss) while somebody looks for leak.
-
Gone from bad to worse... ran car to temp and no leaks visable so assume hose clips hadnt sealed properly so happy days......... I thought.... Then noticed water dripping and spraying ( due to aux belt flicking it) from bottom of engine and traced it to behind lower half of timing belt cover.... thinking water pump losing will to live..... Jimbob recons there's a pipe behind there that could be culprit...... Timing belt needs changing though need it done this weekend if anyone available? Dont mind travelling within reason.... Think Elite pete now lives in Tibet as he dont seem to be on here anymore...
-
Worth popping the plenum off as it could be running forward and down behind the cambelt cover :-\
The only water item behind the cover is the waterpump...
-
hmmmmm i'll look now

Agreed.Mine was leaking as described and it turned out to be running down from the front of the cooler plate. :y
-
took plenium off and all dry with no sign of leaks... all back together now but have air leak somewhere and too dark to see whick air pipe i aint put back.... all fingers point to water pump i think?
