Title: Traction Control
Post by: Mr.OmegaMan on 25 July 2013, 03:20:05
Just been looking it up on OOF searches as to be honest I've never thought about it much on Omegas and seen as the 2.2 doesn't have it although a 2.0 Vectra does is beyond me, Anyways I've had the 2.2 some 4 years and have managed fine without TC and when I got the 3.2 some months ago i presumed TC was OFF!!!  :o ??? and have only last evening pressed the button presuming it turned "ON" the "Traction Control"  :-[ (now i suposse your wondering why i wanted to turn TC on, Well since the alternator incident i thought it best to have TC on trying to be like miss daisy :-X ;D) I didn't realise I had actually just turned it off till now, The exact opposite of what I intended to do ;D ;D ;D I feel so stupid  :-[...

I know now it has always been on but have yet to see the TC light flash as in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fNz0DA6o4c probably haven't tried hard enough then  ::)

Has anyone else made this mistake ? (PLEASE SAY YES)  ;D

No  ;)  ;)  ;)

but you are definitely not alone! As you have found out, TC/ESP or whatever else a car maker calls it, is, by default ON. Pressing the button turns it OFF & puts a light on the dash to remind you what you have done.  :y :y

Look at it this way, when any light is "lit" on the dash, during driving, are any of them a good sign  ::)

Indeed they are :y

The flashing fuel light merely means you've been having too much fun :-X

Wwd shitboxes benefit from TC as they wheelspin at will and need summat to disguise the woeful torque steer...

Nope, I thought the TC operation was obvious ;D

As to the TC light flashing, I've managed a significant distance over 1/4 of a mile with it permenently flashing, in order to fully test it (after Andy B was banging on about how shit it was ::)).  Shagged the rear pads  :-[

So to get the TC light to flash (to see if it works) I'd have to completely floor it from a stand still on a (dry) surface and less so on damp/wet surface... Sounds simple enough might try that one day (with someone else's Omega  ;D)

Floor it halfway round a tight roundabout and it should flash like a demented flashing thing ;D

Mind you, your attention might be more focused on the rear end if the traction is a little slow to react!

 ;D

Only if Mr Omegaman turns the system onf first :P

Did that with my first Omega on an icy mini roundabout ::) damn near messed myself ;D

I find it a well balanced system, not invasive, but definite enough to save embarrassment. Works well on snow/ice as well imho :y

Is that like a in between setting on/off  ??? :o :D

I know of a largish quiet roundabout that i could try this.

Pretty much :y

Invented by the flight crew of this little mishap during the preflight checklist with regards to the deicing systems...

Nicely highlights the (very)  fine line between seeing, reading and thinking ::)

Or SC5s. Its impossible to pull away without tickling the TC.

Is that short for a type of tyre brand  ???

Looks like a type of tyre going by a search on OOF which TB hasn't bonded well with by looks of it.

EDIT: Think SC5s stand's for (Continental Sport Contact 5)

I think its a clumsy, crap system tbh.If driving in a spirited fashion,or in slippery conditions its best to turn it off and use the feel through your arse and respond accordingly with your right foot.
