Hopefully someone can clear up a point about spark plugs for the 3.2,have been given a choice of short or long, never gave it a thought before.....a plug is a plug I thought :-\ Advice on the best choice would be apreciated :y
-
Short, long life not worth extra. GM's standard twins will do just fine :y
-
Thanks Tunnie, that's cleared that up :y
-
I always use long life quads in a 3.2, they are the correct part no for the car. Twins will work fine though :y
-
I use twins and change them at about 25k-30k normally. Quads need tightening about then anyway, and sheild the spark more
-
Only ever quads over here, and I bin them after 20k :y only used twins once, they were in the car for 2k tops :-\ Not saying they caused my misfire problems, but I have yet to destroy a quad plug :-X
-
I would always advise twins for the follwoing reasons
1) There cheaper.
2) They shield the flame front less (hence mixture easier to ignite).
3) Quads are the same plug with two extra electrodes, this gives a theoretical longer life and nothing more.
4) Quads require tightening after around 30-40k miles
5) I have only ever seen the quads shed electrodes, never the twins
-
Are the above answers referring to long or short life. I understand the question as short reach or long reach?
:-\ :-\

The only plug I have experienced this with was a twin which dispensed the core electrode and some insulation into cylinder 6, the engine has never been quite right since ::)

Same here. I thought this was about physical length ???
