If they are properly flat, they'll more than likely leak and cause problems.
If they are partially charged, they 'should' fully charge.

Nothing other than giving them a boost which will make them last a bit longer, at least for the first couple of times you do it! You may then find they have leaked their highly corrosive contents into whatever device they're fitted to :P :y

I've tried it before, but only for about ten minutes at a time. It did seem to breathe life into them.
I'm not sure about leaving them charging for hours though, after seeing the picture that Mr Tunnie posted.. :-\ :-\

Can you adjust the output of the charger? If you can, 50MAh for 10-12 hours would trickle charge a standard Alkaline battery to almost 'new'.
Modern chargers are relatively speaking high output (~200MAh)..... I'd advise against charging normal batteries if there is no adjustment.

No, BM. It's just your standard 'ten a penny' Uniross charger.
Output for AA batteries is quoted at....... 2x 2.8V......145-160mA 0.448VA........whatever that means.
