Title: The Dealership
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 08 August 2013, 20:48:52
After watching this crap about a bunch of Essex wide-boys trying to sell 'motors' to 'punters'....  I'm so glad I buy my cars privately. :-\

All their cars come from the auctions anyway. You might as well buy it there yourself, and save a few grand in the process.

Rip off Britain on one hand selling auction cars to those who deserve to get ripped off buying cars they cannot afford - bound to end in tears

I loved it when the sales manager (who we'll call Gary) was bitching that everyone thinks they have a HUGE mark up on every car when in reality it's more like £300 then in the next scene their reducing a Peugeot 106 to the tune of a grand before the real haggling begins.

But I'm sorry, I'm in a minority because I really enjoyed it!

I would like to think that the sales are all "set up" for our entertainment in this show - it would be commercial suicide for these guys to be displayed like this if it was all for real.

On the subject of dealerships I recently went with a friend to look at a Jaguar XF at a local Jag dealer and after a test drive my friend decided he liked the car and started the negotiation process, the salesman told us that the screen price was the only price for the car and that he would not take any money off at all, not a pound as it was company policy not to haggle, we got up and even as we walked out thought this was just a sales tactic but he didn't try and stop us, I was amazed.  My friend bought another XF from another dealer after getting £900 off the screen price.

When I was looking for a 5 series I went to the local Arnold Clarke garage. They didn't have one in stock, but I told the salesman the amount I was willing to spend, the model and year I wanted, mileage range, colour/s, all the usual stuff.
After faffing about for the best part of an hour trying to sell me a Merc and running off to talk to his boss about 5 times I left saying when you find me the car I'm after call me as I would definitely be buying it ( as long as it met what I had stated).
That was in March..... I'm still waiting on a phone call.

I seen the exact car I was after the following week at an Arnold Clarke dealership in Penrith. I rang them on the Saturday , they emailed me detailed pics, I arranged a test drive for the following day, done the deal on the same day and picked the car up on the Wednesday !

So what was the salesman in Dumfries playing at?  Didn't try very hard to get my business.
And another thing, local guy offered me £300 for my 02 plate MV6 , immaculate condition with FSH and 73k on clock. £300!! >:( ! Not a chance matey. The guy in Penrith offered me £1000.

Tis true that's why I've got a battered 97 omega cause I live in a field full
of streets and houses :D :D

Yes we may live in fields but we certainly can get finance when we want ;D

How thick could they be although one did have nice airbags :-* :-* :-*

That is an understatement imo, it's quite shocking really that educated? people think like that, that they are the centre of the whole country, so need to drive nice cars, no one else needs to, and only 1 of 3 sisters had a decent enough credit score to get finance, says it all really.......... :-X :-X

I watched episode 1 last night on 4OD and when it came to the Dad negoitating for the Mini for his daughter, the line "Aw look at her little face" made me laugh.  The poor chap was totally undermined by his wife, they knew it and totally exploited the fact!  ;D

Was that the guy who refused to pay no more than £4000 plus his clit but caved in at the end?

His Missus was saying its a great deal £6300 for a mini which I'm sure they could have brought privatly for a lot less :)

That's the one!  :)  If his wimmin had kept their mouths shut they'd have probably let him have it for what he wanted!  ::) They could see that the daughter was desperate for it, so they pulled Mum's heart strings and he didn't stand a chance!!  ;D

Wimmin are always the decision makers!!  ::)  :)
