We need a new kitchen and the Omega Range (Doncaster based) popped up as one of the possible suppliers.
Is this an omen for good or evil? Reliability or annoying little problems best ignored?

Probably a good sign to stay well away! ;) ;D
Your post reminded me to go looking for something I saw on TV last night (and fell in love with) though.. Some of you here might well be old enough to remember a house with these in, even:
Wouldn't be contemporary with the house (built in 1970) but they are a gorgeous piece of design (though much better in this too large to embed picture (http://www.source-antiques.co.uk/Websites/sourceantiques/PhotoGallery/2524315/IMG_5904.jpg?30752))..

Yikes. The first house Mr and Mrs V "did up" was in 1981 in Leicester. It had the same units but different colours and was called English Rose from memory. Shame we didn't keep the units they would have been worth nothing still. ;D ;D

Yep +1 had a couple of Howdens kitchens in the past, need to have an account though, just ask for an application form their not fussy :P

That could be taking brand loyalty a tad far, but i suppose it depends on how good the kitchen is?
-
Omega Kitchens ?
I wonder if there are Toyoto Toilets, Lexus Living Rooms, or Beemer Bathrooms ?

Howdens are also in the frame as well as Benchmarx (Travis Perkins/Wickes).
This lot ain't going to be cheap.

My wife will probably refuse this on principle - like she banned me from the Spencers Wood curry night last Sunday. :(

last time MrsEgg wanted a kitchen, the cheapest quote we got was 6K + appliances (fitted) :o
She went into hospital for 4 weeks, and when she'd got out, the kitchen was fitted.
I bought myself a table saw + some accessories, 600 quid in timber + 200 quid in fittings (drawer slides and handles), 200 quid in worktops.
PLUS two portacabin link units to use them in (I have a HUGE garden)
Total cost of the kitchen was just under 5k INCLUDING appliances - and I still have the shed and tools ;)

I've recently fitted a new kitchen where I sourced all the components from different suppliers. It cost about £650 and Howdens quoted me £1100. :)
There are lots of suppliers on ebay which is worth a look. :y

You lot put me to shame. It is great that you have been so resourceful. I last fitted a kitchen myself in 1979 - just could not do it at all or even part now - it would look bloody awful.
The units alone would buy 10 Omegas!!

friend of mine bought a kitchen from one of the 'bay suppliers - was a complete mess.
Appeared to be all the "2nds" -
holes missing from shelf supports.
Hinge recesses missing
cabinets off square
plastic coatings not glued to MDF core
absolute NIGHTMARE to fit.
cost her about 1k instead of 4k, but at least an extra 40 hours labour.
worth it in monetary terms, but it will never be perfect, and parts of it jar every time I see them - doors that will NEVER fit straight, cabinets that hang not quite plumb. Slight colour imperfections.
Extra holes showing where not wanted.
Would have been less work, and look better, to have them custom built from 13-ply furniture grade birch plyboard, and spray painted.

Yes although I saved a lot of money, it was a bit of a faff to be honest! ::)
The cabinets were from a supplier selling off Moben bankrupt stock, so they were really good quality, but never designed for DIY so no instructions for assembly. ::) Doors, worktops, plinths and sink came from B&Q where I have a trade card so waited for the periodic 20% off everything day! ;) The tap and under wall cabinet lights came from Lidl, handles and extractor from ebay and the drawboxes were recycled from the old kitchen! :)
As I've fitted B&Q doors to Moben units the hinges didn't match the predrilled holes so I had to drill new holes, but I made a jig so all the doors hang nicely and there is a slight difference in the colour between the doors and the units, which is not that obvious... ::) It's gone in one of my rentals so it probably won't get looked after anyway, but it looks good and everything works!! :y

i keep away from anything with that name on it :y :y
