Title: 2003 Renault Megane (the big butt one) aeroplane noise when driving
Post by: Webby the Bear on 10 August 2013, 09:43:05
Hi guys,

As above buddy has just called me. his Migraine, i mean megane has this low droaning noise when driving. its quite loud. i jacked his car up and theres NO play at 12 and 6 indicating a shot bearing.

he's just took it to kwikfit  ::) and they've said ''we've checked your bearings and theyre fine...we think it may be the gearbox''  ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

my initial reaction was this is 'dangle berries'....... could it still be the bearing even with no play?

thanks

You don't need any play for the wheel bearing to be shot,Jack up spin each wheel as fast as you can and you should hear which one is fubar

good news is he's just been for a tyre change and an alignment (I suggested he had his toe angle looked at following balding on the outside shoulder.

he just rang me to say a.) his toe was WELL off.... toeing in on a fwd ;D and that's fixed and b.) his new tyre has cured the droaning noise! I asked how bad the tyre was (on the suspected offending wheel) and he said ''really bad''  ;D ;D

bit gutted actually as I fancied a tough wheel bearing job. never mind. but thanks fir all the info and kwikfit can get stuffed with their rubbish diagnostics. they should really stick to dragging their knuckles round in their cage!  >:(
