Hi all
I've been with sky for 8 years now. Got a £71 per month package which gives me internet, phone, line rental, HD and movies.
I have had my sky HD box 3 years and internet router 2 years.
The sky box keeps freezing and restarting - from what I've seen online it's age related. it's outside warranty so I'd need a new box.
Same really with the router, 2-4 times a month it needs unplugging and rebooting - again age related.
So I called sky and said as a long standing customer with old failing kit would they be able to assist?
I inquired about them sending me a new router and the new'er style 2tb black box (our current 250mb box is often very close to full)
In short - No. not free of charge anyway. I can have the new 2tb box but they want to charge me £149 +£60 set up fee. (or £15 if I want to set it up myself??)
They said they would send an engineer out to look at the box and would replace it like-for-like if a fault is found free of charge. (not bad I know but I'm after the new 2tb black box) but if there is no fault found I would get charged for the visit!! It'll be my luck that it works well when the engineer is here!!
Same goes with the router!
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could get what I'm after without A) paying for engineer visits or B) shelling out for new kit?
I've been with sky years and pay them £850 a year....
Am I asking for too much, I'm after some uprated equipment to watch a service I pay for?
Cheers
Rob

Cancel, and be prepared to go through with it.
9 times out of 10, you'll get what you want, and a cheaper subscription.

maybe pm Tunnie for advice

Easy Tiger - Sky are forthcoming with massive discounts and free stuff if you ask the right questions to the right member of staff.

That's the new 2TB box arrived which yesterday on-top of the old wayward bag of shite Sky fobbed me off with when I had a problem with the original box many moons ago.
They also reduced a very similar bill to yours to just over £40 a month. 12 month contract, but meh, I like Sky.
Speak to the right person and you can have anything you want! ;D

Her name was Joy. She was, I believe, of Caribbean origin and quite a laugh on the phone. It took a couple of hours, but with some friendly banter and a lot of "I'll speak to my boss, boss" it all came good. :y
Just mention BT Vision and Sky reps shit themselves! ;D

Brill, I will mention BT as I have looked into them. But how the heck did you manage to get your bill halfed???

Honestly, I do not know - I tried about 6 months ago for a discount and they processed my cancellation! ;D
Of course, I phoned back the next day and cancelled the cancellation.
With the roll out of BT Vision, I think Sky are losing customers hand over fist. I personally like Sky, I've had mixed experiences with Customer Services and mixed experiences with their Engineers, but the product is fantastic.
I'll let someone else play Guinea Pig for BT vision, and if it proves to be good then (in 12months time) I'll change.
Good luck with your quest for cheaper bills. It is possible, but as said, very much depends on who you talk to, and I guess, how you ask them????

As I've been working about 23 days with 2 days off, I'm taking a well

hi all
Just thought I'd update the thread, I sent an email to skys CEO, Jeremy Darroch explaining the above and sent some 'screen shoots' of quotes from virgin & BT vision.
I was polite and wasn't holding them to ransome or anything and 1 day later, a lovely lady, Carol called me......
She was very sorry about the way my initial call was handled to Sky and was worried that I felt the need to contact Jeremy.
As a result Carol has agreed to reduce my bill from £71.25 to £49.75 (fixed for 12months) and is sending out a new 2tb box and new router.
Very pleased at this, it is a shame that as a long standing customer I had to write to the CEO....

Dear Mr ***
Customer Account Number: 6*************
Thanks very much for taking the time to speak with me today and I am glad that you have decided to stay with us for the next 12 months at least.
As discussed I have arranged for an engineer to come round with your new 2TB Sky+HD box and Hub on Friday 30th August between 8am and 1pm. The engineer will give you a call on your mobile to let you know what time he will be with you at on the day and I will give you a ring as well to make sure all is well and you are happy with the installation.
I have applied a discounted offer to your Sky account and this will reduce your monthly bill to 49.75 (GBP) until 17 August 2014. This is not including any pay per view, box office events or call charges made out with your package.
I hope you find all this to be acceptable. Should you require anything further in regard to your Sky account, please do not hesitate to either reply to my email or call me. I am normally in the office between 17.00 and 23.00, Monday to Friday.
Kind regards
Carol McCallum

I would have said same as TB, cancel bluf and go all the way if needs be. Looks like a good reduction there, at the moment they are even more keen than usual to keep your custom :y
