Title: HELP...Diesel EML problem, loss of turbo until light is extinguished
Post by: Taximan on 15 August 2013, 18:53:21
Hi all,
My 2.2 dti has had the engine management light coming on for last few days, accompanied with turbo loss, until about 2000 revs. Engine management light then extinguishes and turbo kicks in as normal.
Eml remains off until either
                                    1. reduced throttle when cruise speed is reached, (at any speed), or
                                    2. when stopped at traffic lights or other traffic nuisances
No fault codes have been stored, EGR valve cleaned, all vacuum pipes and elbows appear to be sound.
Oil and filter have just been changed and the battery is in good order.
Any help would be greatly  appreciated.
Many thanks,

Taximan

Crankshaft sensor most probably

Crank shaft sensors usually result in the car running or not ...... not somewhere in between  :-\

On a different Vauxhall diseasal, my Astra TD would do similar, & even though the fault code was something about EGR  ???, it turned out to be a duff MAF  :y

Thanks for all your prompt replies - just to add, the rev counter is working fine so I can probably rule out the crank sensor.
I have a spare MAF sensor, will replace tomorrow  and let you know.
Cheers

Yes agreed, as per: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90640.0

Have you checked the large elbow connected to the vacuum pump at the rear of the engine?

EGR is still the main suspect in my opinion, they often fail to hold the valve in position as the diaphragm fails.

Replaced MAF sensor with a known good one - no change...
Will examine EGR valve tomorrow plus dismantle and check vac system.
Thanks for helpful replies.

Last two DTI's i've done it's been the rubber elbow on the vac pump, being right at the back of the head it gets hot and cold a lot. Only about £1.50 each so now keep a spare with the car. I now clean the inlet manifold top and bottom each year on the brothers and will do on the DTI I got a few months ago. Take the EGR off and give it a good clean and the check for suction and pressure when you push the piston. I now have the cam locking kit for this engine as well :y
