Title: Saab problem
Post by: N61AOP on 17 August 2013, 20:10:43
My father has a 12 year old Saab 9-5 2.3 petrol automatic estate which has recently development an intermittent starting problem. About once a week it refuses to start, when he turns the key nothing happens. An hour or so later it will start, but that's not very helpful when your parked in a hospital car park! Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

Dodgy connector on the solenoid pack.
Dodgy gear selector switch.

does the engine turn over but not start,or just nothing, these can be prone to crankshaft sensors failing and di packs doing strange things, ignition switches are common problems on these too.

Second the ignition switch! Had it on a calibra whereby you would get the lights on the dash at position 2 on the ignition then bugger all when turning it for start. Had me chasing my tail thinking immobiliser but was a simple £8 switch.

Thanks for the comments. When he turns the key there is nothing, the engine doesn't turnover at all so it sounds like it might be the ignition switch.  :y
