Came to use my spare key today and engine just turns over. On inspection the transponder chip has fallen out, probably happened the last time I use the spare key and it came apart.
So am I right in thinking I need to either live without a spare key or get a second hand or blank key with chip in eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160575925383 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160575925383) and find someone with tech2?

;D ;D Yep

Spare key is the best solution. You need a carpass as well.
Bodge Plan B is to remove transponder from working key, and tape it to the immobiliser ECU.
-
;D ;D Yep
No need to toss yourself off dbug its only the spare ;D ;D ;D ;D. I still have a working main key ::)
-
Cheaper here presuming you dont need the blank key part...

You need programming equip and the carpass to program the immobiliser.

I don't have the car pass, I think it tells you to keep it separate from the car and the previous owner obviously did :(. And I forgot to ask for it not that that would have helped. So I have to go to Vaux for the car pass do I?
Re. programming I assume it is the car that gets programmed not the transponder I assume that is passive?
Had a quote of £20 to supply and program a chip IF I have the car pass/security code which doesn't seem too bad for London.

Have a ring around for prices for a Car Pass. Apparently they range from £20 to £50 .... depending on the dealer. Vx Wigan charged me £20 +vat for a a replacement for mine ...... then I found the original ???

;D ;D Yep
No need to toss yourself off dbug its only the spare ;D ;D ;D ;D. I still have a working main key ::)
Don't think that's called for - only confirming that for once your thinkng was right ???
And "all the guff on the bay" will be merely how to resync your remote fob. ;)
-
thanks that's now coming up to £50 plus :(. TB's ingenious
bodge Plan B is looking more attractive. Another advantage is that I will never lose a transponder again :).
I assume all VX have to do is check their database, check you are the owner and print the pass. £20 a minute >:(

Back on topic, 20 bucks is quite cheap for car pass. Some on here have reported a charge of £50+ :o
Re-call the car pass also has the mechanical code too? So you can get another key cut to fit the barrel if you loose that. (at Vx prices though) So worth getting, to then also have code to program.
Old chips can be programmed to new cars, scrappy back home you can wonder around. Often find a spare key or two in the car, worth "borrowing" transponders from them for spares
-
Think if it was me I be inclined to wrap the chip around the Ing. loop coil as TB says, Today! and get a key copied, until its sorted, sods law says you gonna lose or miss place the Key when you've only got one. ;)

I haven't been successful in programming the Immobiliser to accept a used chip......

Nope, I wish.
Opelscanner and "My Naff Code Reader".

Must be something only tech2 can really do well, little fatty has programmed some of my used chips without issue. Although I don't think its 100%, some fail, I may have been lucky :)
-
Programming used transponders is no issue.
Can be a problem on the very latest Vx's
