I think I need new front wheel bearings for the 3.2 Elite 02 plate, what are the best brand bearings to use??
And is it better to replace the complete hub or just the bearing??
-
Avoid the contitech ones, they are quite poor.
Sorry, can suggest a good one

FAG £60 at all German parts last I looked. It is the OE part.
Comes with bearing cap, which often gets battered on removal and is not supplied by pattern copies.
As said avoid the conti direct/tech ones. They are shit. Excess play from new. Destroyed both in a few months.

.....
I'm sure the bearing will come out of the hub ................... ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ;)

has any one found a source of just the bearings for these front hubs? We had a search around on ABS and have not yet come up with one. As replacing would need he hub off any way, is it just not easier to replace the complete unit?

I had my tongue firmly in my cheek Keith. The bearing outer IS the hub .... ie it's most definitely not a separate item.
I'm sure Chris will have some pictures to testify .... or a link to the original thread ::) ??? ;) ;)

Nope.
Chrisgixer can't be bothered. :)

Go on! You know you want to ;-)

Having seen the demolished bearing assemblies in the flesh, it would be only polite to confirm that they are indeed a single lump of metal :y

Ok, here you go. ;)

Another question, if I change the complete hub/bearing will it change the alignment/tracking??

I'd say no ..... never had my 'tracking' checked after mine was changed. Can't see why you'd need to.

Cool, that's what I thought

No :)

Your aware it needs to be torqued to 320nm?
Halfords do a 300nm torque wrench where the extra 20nm can be judged on the gauge. ;)

I have one of those and can confirm it does the job quite nicely ;)
I use a 3ft scaffold pole on a breaker bar to get them off, the nut makes a very satisfying "crack" when it lets go! Had one that really didn't want to come off, was worried the car would come off the stands so put the wheel on with the centre cap removed and dropped it back on the ground... the wheel was lifting off the ground and turning but the f'in nut still wouldn't give... ended up flipping the breaker bar round 180deg and bouncing up and down on it!

I loved my old Halfords torque wrenches :'(
I will be replacing with the same again.

Only if you remove the steering knuckle assembly :y although why you would need to remove that to change a bearing beats me ::)
