I always thought Omegas were very warm under the bonnet, but shouldn't cause the lacquer to peel  :-\
Is the insulation still present on the underside of the bonnet itself?

If all three fans work as they should, the cooloing system is well maintained and not boiling the water off and the temp gauge and lights work as they should, then it is only cosmetic :y

One behind the rad ie engine side and the other two in front of it .... easy to see them if you look  :y

Should have two in front of the radiator and one behind :y all pretty obvious, just mind your fingers if the car is still warm :y

Unless of course that's just a facelift thing ::)

More likely, as lacquer only peeling, that it is due to heat from outside bonnet, or probably due to a poor paint job - ie lacquer applied onto dry paint and not properly keyed (ie stuck).  It will then be prone to peel off, particularly in high ambient temperatures ;)

They do run hot, 90c should show on the gauge on a new stat. Down to about 80c on an old tired stat. Does that sound about right?

Maybe just a paint issue with your particular bonnet...? They're really easy to swap over if there's one on a breaker.

Bah, too slow eating me tea. ;D

Much cheaper, much easier, much quicker. ??? Needs two people though.

2bolts for bonnet, 4 bolts for struts. Lift it off. :)

Pfl you do have to mess about with washers though. ::)

Because it takes all of 10 mins to swap a bonnet if you are lucky enough to find one in the same colour. Often the colour match is better from a panel off a similar age car than having to respray and blend new paint... Of course I guess it depends on what facilities you have available to hand....

For instance, RobG had a good bonnet in silver.

Drive to his house, remove my bonnet, fit his to mine, fit mine to his. 10mins if that.

Scrap old bonnet with his shell.

Jobbed.

Swapped the one on my 2.6 by myself.  :y

Don't bother unbolting the struts, just pull the clips back at the bonnet end and tap them away from the bonnet.  ;)

Filled and painted in with face lift scuttle and washers?

Yes. but my MFL already had the required scuttle, but with blacks fitted. The rear of the bonnet needs 'fettling' though otherwise it pushes the nearside washer into the scuttle as the bonnet shuts. I was having the bonnet painted anyway, so thought I'd move the washers.  ;)
