Well i knew i shouldnt have a week of work, money in bank and looking for a 2nd car so the green cabby can be of road for the winter months,so i picked this up for £100 was originally up for £200 due to water pump leaking, mot till june next year, body isnt perfect put will do my best to make it look better,so ordering a cambelt kit, water pump and cam locking kit and changing the pump by the weekend,i suspect it might have hgf tho but i recon it could be some sealer gunk dumped in the coolant to stop the leak, here it is

Just ordered cambelt kit, water pump, cam cover gasket and cam locking tool, flush out coolant system 2moro and see whats leaking and if head gasket is holding :y
-
Worth changing inlet manifold gasket while there, as these often leak.
Make sure the stuff you get is for the later K Series, else it no fit...
-
I will call round with panel puller tomorrow :D After i been to Uncle Frankies ::) :P

I had a 25 Diesel not long ago and it was a brilliant car, i've now got a Rover Coupe 218VVC in bellend purple and a Rover Coupe 220 Turbo in blue :)

I haa a 623 Gsi but I really wanted a 620ti. The ones I looked at were all being sold by young lads, so I guess they had been hammered.
It's a funny thing, power, I used to like to know it was there if I want/need it, but I very seldom used it.

Well picked it up runs ok,coolant flush done, and found the problem, rad blocked solid of sludge, new 1 ordered and fitting tomorrow .
-
need any help martin? :y
-
All in hand mate, should be fixed by the morning :y
-
What a mess it made of the drive , spewing its guts up ;D Nice toasty heater now also :y
-
Even better once new rad is fitted lol :y
-
Marks Plasma cutter would have come in handy to get the replacement panel off the scrapper :(

Not a dollop more of spitting brown gunk from the water pipes ;D Amazing how clean the coolant is now with a bit of soap suds an put on fast spin :y
-
And thats why many cars, K series included, pop their HGs, because people are too idle/dense to change the coolant regularly...
-
Amazed it still ran but engine seems bullet proof to a mass of abuse from lack of servicing :(
-
Judging by the amount of sludge in the rad and pipes, its been well neglected or shit loads of stop leak stuck in it,tomorrow is another day,see how it runs after rad change and new coolant, then next week,a full service on it.
-
Didnt these engines have trouble with a small bore pipe that ran along the back of the engine and corroded upcausing HG failures?

Any coolant leak tends to lead to HGF on these. There are a few common leaks, but the inlet manifold gasket on later K series (the one with the later cambelt setup) is the most common (ignoring rad leaks)

Well today was semi productive, was sorting out hose clips when i heard, drip, drip, drip on the floor, yes the water pump was dead,so got a new 1 delivered along with the rad, fitted water pump and just as i was about to do cambelt the locking tool turned up,fitted belt, and all the other stuff, opened up the rad and you know where this is going,it was the wrong 1,so i know have to wait till tomorrow morning to finish it.
-
Must have been the pattern postie :D ;D
-
Good day for the rover, rad fitted, filled with water, run for a few hours, then left to cool, went to scrappy, got a throttle body and accelarator cable and now have the full 103 bhp instead of then 83 restricted from the factory, then changed water in systemvand now have antifreeze in it,still has a bit of gunk init but expected for now :y
-
The 100bhp 1.4 isn't too bad, though you need to wrongs it neck.
The 1.6, on paper only a few horsepower more, is far better for power, more than the specs suggest
-
I used to have a rover 100 gti spi ,superchipped, pipercross airfilter, janspeed 4-2-1 complete exhaust and that was very quick.
-
Have you got room for another rover ::) One round the corner is at £100 .. another fixer uppa :)
