Title: Mot Question
Post by: Kate on 01 October 2013, 17:49:50
Hi all.

I have a question about the MOT.

The brake discs on my car are rusty and pitted. Would it fail the test on that? Also, the handbrake button sticks so it is difficult to set. Is this an Mot failure?

Many thanks for your help. :y :-* :-* :-*

Failure of the handbrake ratchet would be a problem. Depends how tricky it is, TBH. If the ratchet operates when the brake is pulled (without messing with the button) and the lever locks in place and doesn't release itself if you waggle the lever you will probably be OK. Probably best to sort it out, though.

Rusted disks will be wiped clean as soon as you use the brakes so provided the pitting isn't too bad, they will probably be Ok once you get to the test. Might be worth giving them a bit of a workout on the way. ;)
