Title: Skoda felicia overheating
Post by: Dan282 on 01 October 2013, 20:29:36
I've bought a 1999 felicia 1.3 with an apparent overheating issue. Now with no warning it overheated and blew a hose on the previous owner.

Reconnected it and refilled with coolant.

No oil mixed with water. Little bit of gunk on filler cap but car is not used much. I've had it running for 45 mins and the fan would cut in but only the once however where one of the hoses meet the bottom of the expansion tank there is a slight weep of water when warm and also on one of the bottom hoses. Hoses are not split it simply looks like it's being forced out.

Lastly when I turn the car off and slowly unscrew the header tank cap there doesn't seem to be that much pressure.

I took a punt and paid £100 with 3 months tax and test so hoping it's just a thermostat or something simple.

Any ideas all?

My neighbour (in 1999) bought one of those new (or nearly new).

After a couple of years it exhibited the same symptoms. We decided the fan thermostat was fubar and fitted a new one. As far as I know that fixed it. I haven't seen him for almost 10 years now so don't know if the problem recurred :-\
