Title: Whining Noise
Post by: BenjieH on 03 October 2013, 01:09:51
Hi everyone, I have had a good search but can not seem to to find the answer to this one!

My Omega has started making a low whining noise whenever I turn hard to the right like on a round-a-bout or during parking, I have recently had both front pads, discs and tires changed, i have checked the PAS fluid levels and hoses and all seems Ok.

Does anyone have any other ideas??

Thanks as always for your help and suggestions!

Ben

Does the noise change with speed :-\

It doesn't seem to no, i really only notice it when turning tight corners so the speed is low.

I have a similar problem but it's a creaking type sound like going around a roundabouts or sharp cornering.

If it was worse with speed I would have suggested a wheel bearing... the power steering pump can whine a bit if you hold the wheel at full lock, bit difficult to diagnose noises without hearing them :-\

Most likely to be suspension related... possibilities include anti roll bar bushes, top mounts, rear subframe mounts :-\

I'm 90% sure it's coming from the front passenger side, I sprayed some 3in1 lithium white grease around those areas yesterday, Took the wheel off checked and sprayed nothing seems out of place all tight and solid, Will update if that cures it probably a slim chance and if it did prob only temporarily  :-\

MrOmegaMan no apologies needed! it does sound like a very similar problem!  :y

I know the type of whine you mean Ex Taxi Al, it sounds the same as the full lock whine but it carries on for a short while after the turn, i will attempt to capture the noise and post, as i understand its very difficult to imagine how it sounds!

Its a cross between a whine and a groan!

Very odd indeed!

Just a suggestion .. to try and prove if its a "motion" or a "steering" input .. try jacking the front end right up, then with engine running turn steering and listen ?? that "might" tell you if the pump is the problem ?? then with the steering held hard over get someone to spin the wheel ???

Might not prove anything . ..but then again .. it might .....  worth a try ??
