Looks like Mr DTM was right about the NHS.
I've just been told that my contract will not be renewed. Reason being "I'm too skilled for the role, and they're worried I'll get bored and not give long service".
First time I've ever faced not having a job!!
:'(
-
NO! >:(
Really sorry to hear that.
I'm sure something better is just around the corner......
-
James, I feelfor you mate, I'm in exactly the same boat and with the frickin NHS too.
Bunch of barstewards !!!!
My contract finishes at the end of June and my so-called manager has decided to outsource because he doesn't want the hassles of being a manager
>:(
-
Very sorry to hear about that James. I hope that all goes well in the long run. I am sure that you will find something even better.
All the best
Steve.
-

Considering getting some liability insurance and doing some mobile mechanics in the interim.
I'm pretty good and I'm sure there would be enough demand.
I have some longer term plans, but they don't come into play for a little while...
-
sounds like a good plan that matey !! :y
-
Really sorry to hear that, mate. :(
Makes no sense, really. "We think you're over qualified, and will eventually jump ship, so we'll push you overboard instead". >:(
I do hope something else comes along.

Heres a saying in my language translated "one door will close and another will open in your chance" :y
Dont worry , you are a young man and can find a better job !!
-
Sorry to hear that mate,
Sometimes these things are a blessing in disguise, but I am sure it doesn't look like that at the moment :-/ I'm sure in 6 months time you'll look back and think differently.
-
Sorry to hear about your job James! At least you have your mechanicing skills to fall back on. Good luck.

if this means you will be unemployed, i'm pretty sure there's grounds for unfair dismissal as "too skilled" is frankly a bull***t reason to dismiss you, they're saying they're getting rid of you even though you're capable of doing the job, whether you're overqualified or not!
>:( >:(
sorry to hear it, i hope you get some good out of it :(

Good point, although I guess you haven't served that long a period so your rights might not be that strong. Were you a permanent employee or contractor?
If it's the former and you have worked out your probation it's a very strange reason for dismissal, I agree.
I may just become an LPG installer
That reminds me. Must phone Jeremy. 8-)

sorry to hear that old chap, hopefully some luck will come your way though, who knows, it might end up being a blessing in disguise
-
Sure you will come up smelling of roses, man of your talents :y
-
:o Oh my word!.......I`m sad to read that news James; `here`s hoping and praying something better will come out of that change of employment circumstance really soon! ;)

By the way whatever job you find , dont leave IT..

Sorry to hear about your job - good luck looking for something else.
Why do these people think you'll be pleased to hear that they think you're too good for the job? Surely they should give you credit for having sufficient intelligence to know whether you want the job?
I was turned down for exactly the same reason when I applied for a Computer Operator job at CERN 40 years ago. Of course I was overqualified, but I wanted to live in Geneva and work for one of the leading scientific establishments in the world. I would not have been bored and drifted away - I would have worked to advance myself. >:( >:(
Who knows, I might have invented the World Wide Web :)

If you do let me know, as you are quite local. :y
Can be arranged - I've done a few of them now and could certainly give you a hand with it, subject to what happens :y

Typical NHS:
NHS: "you're too good for your job so we have to fire you"
Dilbert: "But why?"
NHS: "We would rather have somebody who didnt know how to to the job, this is the NHS it cant run smoothly. Besides who will we blame when a problem arises elsewhere? Easier to blame an idiot. Here's your P45"
>:(

You can't blame an idiot -- they are the ones in charge !!!! ::)
-
sorry to hear of your plight,i had a similar thing happen a few weeks ago and know what a shock it can be.if you were an employee then i would think you have grounds for legal redress .would be worth contacting c.a.b. as a first port of call.on the bright side, you could make a living out of your hobby. :y........p.s. this sounds like someone putting into practise the old management adage,"never have someone working under you who is cleverer than you" its amazing how insecure many managers are. :y

Ermm was his Boss ::).....I think it's actually a shame as I recall when James was going for this job, and whether to ditch his previous job :(........Anyway James, sure something else will turn up all the best :y
-
Seems odd - with his boss - got head hunted almost then gets the order of the boot.
Very odd
-
i always look at things like this as an opportunity to move on, and normally to better things.
Currently that isn't what you want to hear i know, but there will come a time when you will laugh at their loss.
i hope someone sees the talent that you have and snaps you up, good luck mate :y
-
That is, quite frankly, ridiculous . :(
However, as others have said, it could be an opportunity to do something else. With your reputation, I'm sure you'll find plenty of "odd jobs" to tide you over :y :y :y
-
Don't worry James. This will work out to your benefit, I have no doubt of that. :)
You have many talents and while you can work as a mechanic (sorry Mark ;)) in the interim, you will find your excellent IT skills will get you in somewhere else very soon.
I was in a situation where I had to leave my job recently. I wasn't sure what would happen at the time but it has turned out to be the best thing that could have happened.
-
Bugger.
But as others have said, it may turn out to be a good thing, as I'm sure an otherwise unexplored opportunity will arise :y
With the work I did on the SPINE project a few years ago, I know a fair few people working on NHS IT contracts, and they are all being axed it seems.
-
sorry to hear about your news james, life is a real bummer sometimes. i hope you get sorted very soon m8

You're taking it very well James. I'm afraid I'd want to hit someone. >:(

I have been going through a very long and challenging recruitment process for a voluntary role, for a while. I've recently found out I was sucesfull and, while it won't pay the bills, it has been a real confidence boost. Without it, I'd be a mess at the moment.
I won't deny I'm worried about money - I am - but I will get by, somehow. It may be (a temporary) opportunity to clear that backlog of people wanting Omega jobs!
Not sure when my official leave date is, yet - I suspect towards the end of June.
TBH - a month off in the summer tinkering with cars might be just what the Doc ordered ;D
-
You're taking it very well James. I'm afraid I'd want to hit someone. >:(
That's because James is a young chap with a positive attitude and you're just a grumpy old git. ;D
-
I guess this is what the thread was about yesterday about going infront of a panel. That's just bloody typical mate. Never heard a load of horse tihs in my life. I hope you told them where to go. I hope all works out for you matey. Why is it always the decent folk :-/ :-/

Sorry to hear that James, but as said you have plenty of skills in IT and car mechanics, you won't have a problem getting another job.
How much do you charge for a 2.0 HG change? ::)

A serious reply, is probably fuel costs (Omega, not V8!) + £15 per hour to you, sir :P

Well, I've retired James. So plenty of 'Garden leave' for me. :y
Sadly, enforced 'garden leave' is quickly looming for me as well - not that I want it to....
As I have said elsewhere to you James, use such things as 'solutions' and not problems. Things resolve so much easier then.... :y
