A question regarding changing the transmission fluid on a 2001 Opel Omega. Is it necessary to fill the small pan with ATF fluid prior to reinstalling it? I've seen some HOW TO on changing the 4L30-E ATF and they mention refilling the small pan prior to reinstalling, which is a pain in the rear end. I've also seen some including the one we have here in the maintenance section which does not mention refilling the small pan prior to reinstalling.

Just follow the "How To" in the maintenance guide and you`ll be OK

Nope ;)
However, fill the 'box with ATF prior to starting-up.
Then continue filling (with engine idling and car level) 'til fluid begins to run back out of the filler plug. Give it a short test run, and re-check the level whilst idling. :y
