Title: Erm, slight gearbox problem, or is it?
Post by: grain.ben on 05 October 2013, 15:24:46
Went out to the car to go to work the other morning, she was already warm as i'd driven her a couple of hours before, came to start her, wouldn't fire, took 5-6 seconds to start the second time, only the bloody spanner light stayed on. Turned off, plugged my naff code reader in, no codes  :-\ , went to the gearbox ecu and found.........

P0727 - Engine Speed Input Circuit No Signal
P1781 - DCT Definitions not found! Please refer to vehicle service manual! what?? :o

I couldn't clear these codes, I can only clear engine codes. So unplugged reader, turned off ignition, turned back on, she fired straight away, all lights went out apart from handbrake of course  :P and she's been good as gold since.

This isn't the first time it's happened though, did it while back, spanner light on, turned off, turned back on, and all normal. TB had a look with his techII but no codes stored. Said something about some codes erase themselves.

Sounds like cam sensor to me, had exactly same when mine was fubared. Cold starts fine, warm/hot starts, lots of cranking but did eventually start.

Is known for them to fail & not give a code  :y

Doesn't the crank (or cam) sensor cause odd fault codes to appear :-\ seem to recall the problem sensor is one on the V6 and tother on the desmond, but can't for the life of me remember which is which ::)

Defo Cam on the 4 pots, often fail and throw other random codes. Hot start with loads of cranking says cam sensor for me on 2.2  :)

Suspecting the cam sensor first, with it not starting was in the back of my mind. Will see how it goes for now. How is a gen gm one these days? (it's on 69000 now)

it's very very rare this happens, but will see about ordering a cam sensor ready for when it does go/eventually.

I'd still vote GM for sensors  :y

With mine it never did completely fail, just more common hot/warm starting issues. If you get a replacement, it's dead easy to change  :)

If it starts doing it more often, ill get one ordered, last time it did this must of been about 5-6 months ago, so will keep an eye on it  :y

Cheers Albitz, better start saving  ;D

I could get one from Maidenhead dealers for you - they give abs discount. Let me know part number please if of interest?
