What ever you do, never fit a pattern cat. They sound dreadful!
What was the exact error code? Any holes in the exhaust, flexi not starting to fail?

Bolt sheared off at head apparemtly at manifnld

Why does that mean a new cat then? :-\
What ever garage did this does not inspire me with confidence ::)
Have a look yourself to prove this, take heat shield off and inspect. At worst it means a replacement exhaust manifold, not cat ;)
But what was the exact code?

Might be worth investing in a code reader :y
Also confirm visually for yourself, get under and inspect the exhaust too. Have engine running, be easier to find any gaps were it maybe blowing :y

Look for holes in the exhaust, which can skew emissions.
Has it currently got a GM cat on, as it may already be a pattern one. Pattern ones are lucky to last the warranty period.
