Title: Newbie needs an opinion
Post by: Scania on 28 May 2008, 20:43:24
Hi everybody, I'm contemplating buying my 1st Omega & would appreciate your views on this car I've seen.

2.2CDX auto estate 2001, 82k om the clock with full history & 3 owners. Last serviced 79k but no cam belt change. It has 10 months MOT but a cracked w/screen. The bumpers have a couple of knocks on them but nothing major & it will need a couple of tyres before the next MOT. Everything seems to work as it should & it drives very well indeed. On the information screen it has a message about the front Headlight level needs to be checked I think, (can't quite remember exactly what it said) The chap is asking 1995.00. Does this sound reasonable or should I keep looking for the same spec model?

Coments please!

Hi & a warm welcome.
I'm not sure about an answer to your question, but someone on here will know. You'd be best posting your question in General Chat for a better response  :y

Hello and welcome to OOFworld  :y
Knock a fair chunk off for the screen -- they don't come cheap!

Firstly, howdoo and welcome to OOF...  This is really a 'welcome, I'm new' section and not really the best place to realise questions or comments.

Rather than have you retype all the above, I will move this thread to genchat so that others can give their opinion.    :y

Personally,I think it is overpriced for the faults/specification but its perhaps better to let others quote their example purchases.....

Sounds a tad high, but is highly dependent on condition.

Welcome! As for the car... Seems a bit pricey to me, but cars are worth what people will pay!

Hi and welcome, i will add my comments to your queries.

2001 car, is it subject to variable rate tax? if so then expect that to go up next year, i am not sure what it is for 2.2's

Cracked windscreen isn't an issue if you have fully comp insurance, that will normally cost £50, but it does sound like the car has had a hard life, especially with bumper knocks, it doesn't sound too 'cared for'
Tyres, how are they wearing, if they are on the inside edges it could be that the wishbones are worn, thus causing the tyres to wear as well, that would be worth checking

the message may read something like headlamp out of range or out of field, if that's the case then the motor or sensor unit may need attention

Cam belt and tensioner will need doing as well factor that into the cost.

If this is a variable tax model then given the work that needs doing i would be offering a grand.

hope that helps

is this in relation to the bargain you're currently driving? ;D

i'm thinkin may be worth a tad more being an estate, especially if its X reg and not Y or 51 (for tax of course!)

I happened to see a facelift omega on Sunday in a street close to Croydon for £695, 2 litre, looked in good nick ::)

if its a x then yes i would say poss £1750, if not then the most i would pay wold be £1500 and for that i would want everything else to be really good

Mine was an exceptional bargain i admit  :y

Considering the depreciation that Omegas suffer, and the current economic climate I would say that car is significantly overpriced.

The items of damage show this is not a car that has been well cared for, and this could cause you significant expense over the next few months with repair and replacement of various other parts.

Look elsewhere, you will find much better for that money.
