:o Oh no!, that`s a real 'kick in the shins' :'(....are you going to repair it yourself Bertie? :-/
-
Unlucky mate :(
-
It’s not that difficult as you may think. Few spanners, parts and it’s all fixed. Shouldnt cost you more that £250 when done by mechanic and £100 if you want to do it.

You need special tool to regring valves but it's really and easy job. I want to skim my engine head but the asking price is £70, and as the head was not the fault of the engine, I will leave as it is...

Bertie, 1) it's a donkey engine, and 2) you're only up the road from me.
What are you fretting, for? ;) ;D

But before we speculate - what are the symptoms?

Put a more interesting cam in as well and get 16v power from it

The local specialist garage wants £500 plus to do it..... :o :o..and quote"it aint worth doing mate, the cars only worth £200 tops!!!"..she aint dead and buried yet i`m gonna price up the parts this afternoon from fox parts(local vaux specialist) and read the TIS manual.... :)

I seem to recall a friend of mine changing a rover 214 from an 8v to a 16v once... Not sure if he swapped the head or the entire engine...
-
Probably easiest to change the whole engine (and manifolds, loom, ecu, immobiliser....).
