Title: Wheelchair Access Vehicles (WAV)
Post by: pscocoa on 21 October 2013, 11:58:22
My mother's size and ailments mean that getting her out and about via even a TX2 Taxi are extremely problematic and uncomfortable for her. Getting passengers in there as well is alomst impossible

We try and book a rear tail lift/ramp but inevitably something else turns up due to excess booking out of the one vehicle the local taxi companies seem to have. The other issue is waiting around for return collections etc and wrong type of vehicle turning up and having to be replaced.

I am thinking of getting something like a Renault Kangoo with tail ramp. I would prefer to hire but the hire fees seem totally disproportionate for weekends when they seem to want you to take the whole weekend for £226 (Adaptive Vehicle Hire quotation). Some daily mid week rates are circa £60 which is not too bad but we need weekend ideally.

If anybody has any contacts /i deas for Tameside area it would be great - otherwise might have to try and buy one around £2500.

I am surprised it is hard to finf info on the web. Will contact someone at Age UK as well.

A couple or three options for you to try...

1.  http://www.londonhireltd.com/  (http://www.londonhireltd.com/)

2. The relevant local council should be able to provide a shortlist of dedicated wheelchair operators, ideally soletraders who operate an E7 :-\

3.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/peugeot-e7-taxi  (http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/peugeot-e7-taxi)

Thanks for that - also just been speaking with Ring and Ride but they do not do one to one's - so you may get involved in other pick ups and not quite the service she needs.
