Title: Shipping container hire
Post by: F1 9LFG on 21 October 2013, 21:48:39
Hi all

I am in need of a 20ft shipping container (hire for 6months)

Anyone know anyone who's in the business - recommendations?

Looked online but I have to call every company to obtain a price so thought I'd ask here!

I'm in Braintree, Essex btw.

Cheers  :y

What about buying one and selling it on? I got my 40ft high cube for 1k delivered - was a few years ago mind. But they hold their value. May not be an option, but may well be half of the amount, but worth that in scrap.

Might be cheaper to buy one and then sell it on when you've finished with it ?
A place in Bocking sells them, but appears to only sell 40ft ones. :-\

Cheers, 40ft may be a tad big but if the price is good then maybe. It would seem I'd have to arrange collection from site & delivery to home on that one. plus getting it down from where it is now if I've read that correctly?!

Best people for that job locally is David Watson Transport. They have every possible combination of truck/ HIAB you could imagine.
They are based on Earls Colne Airfield. Having said that, they arent the cheapest,so it might be worth spending a bit of time ringing round some local companies to compare.

I wish I had somewhere to put one,as I could really do with having one. I have allsorts of stuff cluttering up the place.
I end up throwing away perfectly good Omega doors, wings, and other parts as I just don't have anywhere to put them all.  :(

I know them, they are using what was 'Millbank tracks' rolling stock..?

I may pop up and have a chat with them and look at these containers - Cheers  :y

Sort of. The parent company was Milbank floors (I had the misfortune of working for them for 20 years) and Milbank trucks was a subsidiary, whose MD was Dave Watson - a really nice bloke and also shrewd as they come.
When it all went tits up in 2008,he bought Milbank trucks from the administrators and renamed it David Watson Transport.

True. Ideally a medium sized warehouse with a rent of £10 per week would be just nice. :y ;D

Try Billy Box (or possibly Billie box  :-\)

When I was enquiring a couple of years back they were quoting around £10/week IIRC

Just a word of caution - they do attract condensation inside so it may not be the stroage solution it appears to be - especially for soft furnishings.  Transport costs as previously stated are quite high - minimum of £400 to move one of these from A to B.
