Does that mean that, as a precaution, I can chop down next doors tree that seems to drop an unlimited number of leaves that all fall in ours and not theirs?....... ::) ::)

I'll be in a house in Gorran Haven, Cornwall, at the top of a cliff, overlooking the sea..

Might get a bit breezy, I suppose ;D

Oh wow, brilliant. Storm watching down there is utterly awesome. I actually prefer winter down there. Ignoring the fact there's no oppser about, there is no such thing as bad weather down there, ever.

...provided the cliff stays put of course :-\ ;D

Post by: aaronjb on 25 October 2013, 12:09:59
I was down there last year about the same time - it's a brilliant house, one side is almost entirely floor to ceiling glass with glorious views down to the little bay below, even when it's honking down with rain it's picturesque and just nice to sit and watch..  :y

I don't think the cliff has moved in a very long time, so that should be safe.. as long as the house doesn't slide off the top of it ;D

We stayed in one of the houses in the tv show Doc Martin. Where they shot the radio show scenes. Forget which episode. It's actually a hotel, not brilliant, but doesn't need to be given its location.

But if living there, I don't think I'd actually need a tv. Just sit looking out the window at the constantly changing view.

Although I'd probably leave in the summer holidays. Way too many people.

If anyone is anywhere near Padstow. Try to visit the new Padstow light house. Its out on the headland away from Padstow, as its quicker to drive out to the headland than sail out of the Estuary, and go for a look around.

A stunning location that looks back at the headland, as its sheltered from the sea by a rocky outcrop. A huge bay with views North out to sea and the cliffs towards the town.

On one occasion, there was heavy weather. The view from the radio room showed waves crashing OVER the cliffs which where a good 50ft high. Just awesome to watch, especially in the posh new surrounds of a 3million pound boat house. :y

No trains tomorrow morning in the South and the storm hasn't landed yet with how bad it will be subject to much speculation. The first trains of the day are due to start anytime between 8am and Midday.  :o :o :o :o

Is this country better now the British bulldog and his sphericals, been replaced by a load of box ticking lily livered health and safety officials?  :(

If the Battle of Britain was happening now, a health and safety official would be writing a note to Jerry along the lines of:  ::)

Dear Jerry,

Terribly sorry, but there will be no air-to-air combat tomorrow as our health and safety committee have deem it too dangerous for our pilots to takeoff or land in the expected strong winds. Please be a good sport and don't do too much damage to London and your other targets, where we are giving you a free hand for the day.

If the risk assessment deem it safe enough to take off and land on Tuesday we will see you then.

Yours Sincerely

Health and Safety Executive
Fighter Command

Well, after talking the effects of the storm dn with the missus on the phone last night, I have woken up to the 40 foot pine tree that was in my garden now lying across mine and the neighbour's gardens.   :(

West Bay indeed!!  8)  Although the first was at West Bexington looking west.  :y :y :y

Not too bad here this morning, a bit of debris strewn about and that's it, nice and calm now and the sun is shining!!  :)  Although I did get woken at about 4am and it was absolutely howling!!  :o

I'm sure that Nickbat's satellite dish being blown round was 'karma' for belittling the 'Great Storm' last night!!  :P  ;)  ;D

Hope no one or nothing underneath it :-\

On the plus side, it should kill a few calories dealing with it, and you now have an excuse to buy a log burner for the new house :y

Nope it actually fell in the best possible way without making too much damage, although the wire fence it landed on may need replacing.

Unfortunately the MOD civie contractors will have to come and sort it out for me as I am not allowe to do it myself.  Darn! ;D

Leccy is out at home, and has been for most of the night, I suspect, as everything battery backed is also dead, and stone cold. Good job I don't drive a milk float. :-X

One tree down on the way to work necessitated a bit of a detour.

Nothing much happened here, occasional heavy downpours blow through in minutes and it was a bit windy last night (rearranged the furniture on the balcony nicely) but other than that..

My parents tell me the worst to happen at home (they're house sitting) was the gazebo meeting it's doom.. poor Aldi gazebo.

Actually the most dangerous part of the storm for me was the drive home down the A30.  There are a few spots which flood in heavy rain so at each one I engaged the usual drill of applying hazards to warn the vehicles behind, slowing down to appropriate speed, using brakes once clear to remove water from the discs, and drive on.

Except that last night one idiot coming in the opposite direction decided that he was going to go through at 30+ and swerve on to my side of the road.  Either a deliberate act to soak my car and cause me not to see for a bit, or a very inexperienced driver...either way it took about 2 miles for me to stop shouting swear words pertaining to their brain, family, ability to procreate, etc..... >:( >:( >:(

Had to go up to London for a meeting. No trains running in the morning, they started running again at about 2pm. How often do you see Farnborough Main station car park practically empty on a normal Monday?  :o :o :o

The car park by the station entrance was empty. Only plenty of Taxis in the taxi rank.

Quite a few trees down here, including the neighbours eucalyptus on his house (no damage done thankfully). Got cut off for a couple of hours when a tree fell either end of the base across the main road. Power outages and fluctuations, low water pressure (ruptured main) and now no broadband.

But it does seem we got off quite lightly :y
