Title: CBT
Post by: BazaJT on 26 October 2013, 19:14:45
Anyone on here know the rules regarding having to take the CBT for motorbikes?A mate of mine at work has a 50cc scooter but didn't have to do the CBT,however I've been told that if I buy a 125cc bike I'd have to do so.Is this because of the different capacity,or is it down to power output or what?If I bought a 50cc motorbike[I don't like the scooter type things]does this mean I wouldn't have to do the CBT.I'm asking because if I have to do the CBT then I have to factor in the £100 cost of this which of course eats into the budget for the purchase of the bike itself.

You don’t need to take CBT to ride a moped if you passed your car driving test before 1 February 2001.

Mopeds have a maximum engine size of 50cc and a maximum speed of approximately 31mph.

so I guess it depends whether your 50cc motorbike can do 32mph or not

Ah, but your real claim to fame is falling off the bike during the test :P

Actually, I had to do CBT and DAS - as I was riding my old 125 on Looneys on my normal driving licence, then in the late 1990s, the rules changed, and thus I had to do CBT+DAS, as I hadn't passed a bike test then.

Isn't it something like you have to stop quickly, safely, and in control? I think thats 0 out of 3 then ;D

Still, I failed my DAS first time round, put my hoof down on the u-turn  :-[

I stopped quickly so 1 out of 3  ;D

Put my foot down on my second test too, that was cause to fail  :-[

3rd test, again I put my foot down on U turn.   >:( - Pissed off with myself, I did 4 U turns back to back perfectly. I was given a minor as he could see I could do them  8)

I did my bike test back in the days when the man stood on the corner with his clipboard and told you to go down the road turn right, right again and right again and arrive back here.  ::)

So off I go on my Yamaha RXS100 round the first corner and the bike konks out!  :o  I'd forgotten to turn the petrol tap back on!!  :-[  Furiously kick started it back into action, hared around the rest of the course to the last corner, slowed down and sedately arrived back at the tester who was none the wiser and passed me!  :y  ;D

I borrowed a bike to do my test on .... Z250 ... that had a conventional fuel tap. My GT250 had a vacuum operated on, off tap, so I never thought to turn the fuel tap on the Z250. It conked out at the dockyard gate. It took me a little while to realise what the 'fault' was.  ::) ;D

On the test, I misunderstood the examiner & ended up at the wrong end of the road from where I supposed to be ...... did the same as you & gave a hand full of throttle to the correct bit of the test & then took my time as I rode passed him.    Dunfermline Nov 1980 .....  :o

Actually passed my test way back-1970 or early 71-but in many changes of address since the bike entitlement has disappeared from licence so it'd be back to square one for that.Just figured on a small commuter bike for work,to save me a 3 1/2 mile walk each way.Not viable to use the Mig for this, the fuel consumption and parking charges[there's no parking on site for cars-but bikes can!]would be prohibitive.

Not worth tackling DVLA to see if you can get your bike entitlement reinstated?  :-\

Unless you have the original pass certificate, not a chance I'm afraid.

I lost my entitlement when I changed over to photo card, even though I still had my original dispatch riders card from the services, they will only accept copies of the original pass certificate!
Oh and it's not their fault the bike entitlement went astray!!!??!
