According to Miss Vamps we have joined the human race and bought a new Samsung LCD TV, but it wants to switch off after 4 hours, and the sleep and anything else I could find is switched off, is this just something we have to live with?............... :( :(

Must be an option in settings?

Agreed and working on it, but can't find it........ :-[ :-[

I believe there is an " Off " timer as well as a " Sleep " timer on the Sammy menu's, you need to disable both.
-
It's in the power saving/screen protection options somewhere, I'll have a look later (when I get my arse out of bed).

We bought a mobile sat dish, the instruction that came with it says that according to EU energy saving directive blah blah blah the box is required to to turn off after so many hours but ....... this setting stops it from doing so. Somewhat defeats the object! ;D ;D

Menu>System>Eco solution>Auto power on/off.

Possibly this is one of the latest new "Smart" TVs . . . .
. . . and it's smart enough to know that there is nothing but crap on so it saves you electricity and time wasting by switching itself off ::)

My Samsung does the same, after 4 hours you get 1 minute to hit the OK button or it switches off,it's an energy saving thing apparantly . You can go to settings and knock it off

Certainly not, Mr vamps.
As already stated, there will be away to disable the little sod. :y

My Panasonic TV's have this facility and it is a great function to save power. Who hasn't left a TV on when going out, or simply becoming involved in something else. In any case a message comes up just before the auto power turn-off and gives you the chance to override.
My friends Sky Box also does this. ;)

Oh, Sky really milked that in the press when it came out, and got loads of praise from misguided sandal-wearing types for being so "green". What nobody pointed out is that the only thing a Sky box does when it goes into standby is switch off the green LED and switch on the red LED. Oh, and disable the picture. Everything is still powered-up internally and it's still taking 20-30 watts of power as it sits there, no doubt waiting for a command from uncle Rupert. >:(

I hope it was an LED/LCD and not just an LCD one :-\

No, its a ridiculously stupid idea to appease the tree huggers.
And no, if I leave the room, the goggle goes off.

Sky auto standby works fine. Even right in the middle of recording something. ;D
-
Both my LCD Tv's have this, tho i havent noticed them wanting to turn themselves off, probably because theres so much crap on TV, they are never on long enough ::)
-
Ours rarely goes into auto standby either. It has to be left on the same channel for more than a few seconds to do that, apparently. No chance when Mrs. KW has the remote. ::)
