Hi guys,
Car is running gorgeous. Went through MOT with a few advisories:
Both front wishbone bushes excessive play
Poor exhaust system ;D ;D ;D ;D it's basically held together with Gun Gum
Front fog lamp housing missing (one on order)
Will be replacing exhaust from downpipe backwards so that's no trouble. Re the wishbones, do I replace them or just swap out the bushes? bearing in mind I don't have a press to get them out i'm thinking just replace the wishbones? what are poly bushes also? heard lots of talk about them.
Anyway, check engine light on and off all the time. seems to be on around town during stop/start driving and goes off on the dually/m'way. im back at school next week, going to wipe codes with the Snap-on Modus, drive it and see what comes back and replace whats needed then.
For now though a quick oil and filter change and shes banging - very happy :y :y :y

Nice one Webby! :y Always good to see another Miggy put back on the road! 8)
-
Good effort :y
If it's just the front bushes, then easiest thing is polybushes :y if you can do it with the arms on the car then you won't need a set up :y
-
Good stuff :y
-
Ive got access to a 6ton press :y
-
All together now (as we have said it SO many times), of the light is on, the fault is present....
-
cheers guys.
thanks martin... I may call on that in the future if that's ok :)
mark, re the mil light. yep defo a current fault, but as there could be old codes then I think it makes sense to wipe everything and then we can see whats current when it comes back on. you feel me knocking? :)
-
Just read what you have now anyway....?
-
Nice one Webby - congrats :y
-
Cheers mate :y
Ok my Maxim Autel code reader wont work with the omega sadly.
however martins kindly sent me the video of the paperclip test. would someone mind telling me what they thnk as its just confusing to me. I think I get a ''hall sensor'' which as you explained before, mark, was the cam sensor. but confused after that. amyones help would be appreciated :)

I got 135, 132, 94, 73and 89. Possibly another one in there, but I'm watching The Chase.
-
lol thanks STE-HOMO...... being a scouser I presume you mean youre watching some hoodies being chased by the fuzz....as opposed to the popular gameshow on tv? ::) ;D
is scouse right?? :)
-
Reviewed the footage and i'm thinking STE-HOMO was right.
Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low
O2 Sensor 2 Open Circuit
Hall Sensor Voltage High
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Feedback Incorrect Signal
Telltale (Checklight) Voltage Low
maf, o2 and cam sensor.... new sensors i'm presuming?
EGR - a good cleaning?
wtf is telltale lol
-
telltale = EML
Can always reset, and see what comes back to help make it clearer :)
-

Nooooooooo no no!
Just because the fault code is there for a particular sensor, doesn't instantly mean it should be condemned.
This is the poor "the computer says its broke so I'll change it" approach used by so many garages, including dealers.
Remember, the fault codes are indicators, nothing more...
Think about it... the car's just had a load of work done, and, suddenly, all of these sensors fail? I don't buy it ;)
Either stuff is plugged in incorrectly, there is a bad earth, or similar... the faults will be related to the recent work, not a load of sudden, co-incidental sensor failures
Check the round plugs in the battery tray area and the three earths on the back of the 2-4-6 head, definitely checking they're not all bolted together!
-
And yeah, reset, see what comes back, take from there :y
-
cheers boys :y don't worry I wasn't going to replace anything. I was (as I said before) going to reset and see what comes back as I also don't believe theyre nackered..... if they come back that was the approach I was going to take but not before :y
drove it tonight. mil off for most of 20 mile journey. came on 3 times but each time only for a few seconds :)

Possible, but that would probably cause a continual squeal. Is it a new pump?
-
cheers martin. be over sunday if that's ok
shackeng, no not a new water pump. but I checked it for play and there was none. ill look at all the pully bolts and if theyre all tight ill whip the belt off and check the pulleys for play. :y
-
Thats fine mate

If it continues, you may have to whip the aux belt off and start it briefly to eliminate auxiliaries. :y

Cheers mate. do you mean to make sure it goes away when off so as to narrow it down to the aux belt?
-
ps, I trust I can just unhook aux belt from crank and leave everything else lined up (with belt hooked out of the way obviously). then start car?

ps, I trust I can just unhook aux belt from crank and leave everything else lined up (with belt hooked out of the way obviously). Take it clear of the CS, and see if the noise is there when you start it briefly. I suspect it wont be, it is most likely one of the aux bearings. :y
