Hi. I've had my 2.2 cd auto for nearly 6 years. overall very reliable although its been going through a phase the last couple of years with lots of things going wrong one after the other ... anyway, the head gasket went recently so I'm half way through changing it. decided to do the water pump while I was at it. easy to remove, just those 3 bolts. however there doesn't seem to be any particular way to align it. most things like this you can only fit one way, but on this engine its possible to rotate it 360 degrees. although obviously the pulley ends up further away from the timing belt tensioner. is there a particular position the pump should be fitted in ?

Iirc the water pump aslo acts as a tensioner hence why it rotates, but needs to be set up in a certain position before fitting cambelt.

There is a kind of lug on the GM ones That makes pump fit only one way but on the pattern parts the lug is not that big so pump can turn.
