Yep Ralf is right there, if you buy a cheap one it will have issues, but once fixed at least you'll know it's been done right!!  :y

Otherwise go see Mr Budden!  ;)  ;D

Who will charge you an arm and a leg and still sell you a car that needs money spending on it.

Lovely Omega though it is, I believe that Lizzie needed four new tyres, along with new front discs and pads after buying her Elite from Robber Budden.

Do I have that right, Lizzie?.... :-* :-* :-*

I only had those fitted immediately because I didn't like the make on the car, although they were nearly new.  As for the brake pads, I decided to have those replaced in conjunction with new front discs as they were 50% worn and when I own a car I want it fully up to spec to do the speeds I sometimes need to!

As I have said before, the car from Roger Budden is an absolute delight and still I feel worth every penny I paid as it will - barring accidents - be long lasting.  Do not forget I had the Vauxhall main dealer down here give it a full "safety" inspection with(they thought) a possibility I was going to PX it for a brand new car.  It was found to be in "perfect condition, with absolutely no faults, and a wonderful specimen of an Omega".

If necessary, I would return to RB for any future cars. :y :y

Was newtified when I typed that ::)

Basically the Rover P6 V8 will always be worth more than an Omega, and beinga bit rarefied more likely to be driven less and looked after better, whereas a £300 Omega is likely to be driven into the ground, so any slight bump will see it written off.

A bit like buying life insurance at 80, you're guaranteed to die fairly soon, so the premiums are daft to cover the payout :y

Yes, but by the same token, maximum payout in the Omega case is £300 (plus any 3rd party claim). A P6 could well be much more than that, as you say. Probability of any of the above is down to 2 things, though:

Miles travelled per annum
Care taken by driver in covering said miles

This is where the difference lies - between classic car "polisher" on limited miles and someone who spends £300 on a runabout.

Dont know the code , not seen many that color either . Grab it quick before RB puts it in his yard up for £5k  :D ;D

Manual no good for me now but i owned a 2.5 manual before , im in with most that the V6 suits the auto box the best imo  :) You need to try one before committing i guess  :-\

I still keep half an eye out for a decent looking 2.2 DTi Elite Estate at a good price (read: cheap).. the only ones I see on fleaBay tend to be CD spec though and I'd miss my Xenon lights - I remember how poor the non-Xenon's were on my last Omega!

Anyone want my 3.2? The boot lid is now so rusty that it seems to fill with water in the rain and drains out of one end when you open it! :-[ :-[

When I bought another v6 my family's reactions were " oh it will cost a fortune on fuel ". Better than £1000's in depreciation on a new car.  :-X

That's a very good point of view , bangernomics, makes more sense than losing thousands on a boring eurobox,  when anything goes wrong that makes an uneconomic repair swop it for another bargain cruiser !!
