Eh? So I can't ask advice re selling a complete car vs breaking it for spares? I didn't try to sell it here, or ask for money for bits, just what people thought.
Seems a bit rude to just delete a post without the moderator letting me know - after all it's not like I've been on here for 5 minutes...

Fair enough, but to my mind that was no advert. I don't even know if I want to sell the car - but if I did want advice re sell vs break I had to say what the car was or people wouldn't know what advice to give?
Still, a note from the mod would have been a nicety seeing as this clearly wasn't a blatant "I want £x for my Y" type advert.
-
Just a thought, but perhaps it's worth posting up " general car chat " just seeking advice about what to do with your car etc?
May get more response or support from there perhaps. I could be totally wrong tho sorry. :-X :y

With respect, it did look like a disguised selling post to me, especially with the photo. :-\ :-\ :-\

and not very well disguised IMHO ... :(

Me - "I have a car - should I break it for parts or sell it? What's the market like for Omega cars/spares?"
The replies I'd expect to that post.
"Dude, we need more details!"
"How can we answer that without knowing more about it?"
"Duh! What car? Mileage? Condition?"
"Jeeze - how can we help you with no information??"
Give the details and the post is deleted. Can you see the problem? :) Don't won't to transgress the T&Cs or p1ss people off - just wanted to know if I broke an Omega what are the chances of people wanting to buy certain "things"? :P

Problem is, first thing frustrated sellers do when told they need 250 posts is to post a speculative "what if I sold my car" post in general chat, so these will get deleted too. Unfortunately, we get enough of these that it isn't possible to PM every offender and explain why their post has disappeared.
I suggest you look into the parts for sale section to get a feel for what parts are shifting and for what money, but bear in mind that you will need 250 posts to sell them here.
-
I must admit at first i saw of you question i thought oh..oh....looks like a for sale advert and although you may have put it on here just to ask advice the rules on this forum are there to be looked at and to be followed....however as you said.(it would have been nice to have had a p.m from the moderator first ) with that i agree....oh oh you got me in trouble now lol....we all have made mistakes..me included but the rules are there for us all to be protected and therefore in our best interests...So i am sure not at all personal ..simply a reminder to us all to check the rules.. :y :y

Clearly in the rules & clearly an advert, admins give up enough of their time as it is. So just nuke it. Deal with it, get involved to get enough posts, then post up.
Man up about it or quit whining.

No problems guys - just thought some helpful advice might be forthcoming like "ooh - stick it on Piston Heads, someone will want the engine" or "don't bother with Autotrader these days" etc.
Anyway, I've stuck her on an internet auction site so I'll gauge the interest from there :)
/malc.
P.S. I can say it's listed elsewhere on the internet without censure, can't I? :-* :y :P ::) :o :D ;D :)

Dry your eyes.
Plenty of places you can find the information for yourself (including on here) and the admins have explained why you are no more or less special than anyone else with less than 250 posts.

Dry my whats? The meme was funny but not *that* funny... although the g/f actually LOL'ed. :D
Just trying to make light of the situation. Car is on the 'net, had some interest, some questions, some offers. Selling the car complete is the way to go, as the best market (here!) is OOB to me without sitting and posting about burkas, Tescos, UKIP or Omegas for weeks and weeks to artificially rack up the mythical and magical 250 posts. If I had the technical knowledge to add 250 quality posts to OOF I probably would have over the last 6 years or however long I've been on here. :P This is my loss - but I ain't gonna cry over it. ;)

Really!!!! Why not post something constructive or join in with the banter, rules have been put in place to protect the genuine users on here from being ripped off etc, grow some oppsing balls, man up and stop whinging ,if you dont like go to piston heads and post a sale add on there, and plenty off offer sites aswell to use.

My original question was a constructive one :y
My meme was banter on my part :D
I fully understand and agree with the rules about adverts etc 8)
No idea what 'oppsing' balls are - happy with the ones I already have but thanks for the concern ;)
Nothing to man up about :)
Not whinging about anything :P
Sale ad placed on another site already :-*

Hi Malc,
what's a meme? Not in my dictionary. Google says a mimicked theme. It's all above my head.
I am afraid you have stirred up the site establishment. They can be very rough, but really mean no harm. Last year I suggested front wheel alignment by plank, which works very well for me, but it upset them. Apparently every time I change a track rod, steering idler or wishbone I should take my car to Chesham for a 4 wheel geometry check. Running six Omegas for my family I cannot afford this. Last week MarkG complained he had an off centre steering wheel after such an experience. I know how to cure it in half an hour, but dare not say so.
I recall you had some excellent ex-police 3.2 Omegas in the old Omega Users Yahoo site days. They were the best Omegas in my opinion. Are you disposing of one of these?

I found that quite amusing ;D, to be honest Malc there have been a few cases of people getting shafted hence the rules being stuck to like glue. Have a look through the for sale / wanted section to get an idea what prices you can get for parts. Good luck !

Hi Terry - long time no speak!
Meme - try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_meme (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_meme) for an explanation! Grumpy Cat just seemed to suit the situation.... ;)
Yes, the 'establishment' can get rattled - I've seen it happen before so I know it's nothing personal. This is a fantastic site and the help I have gained from it has saved me hours of grief and considerable cash.
Yep, thinking of getting shot of a black ex-Thames Valley Police 3.2, but that said I have been driving it a lot this week (checking that it would not crap out on anyone's journey home!) and it's soooo much more fun to drive than my 2.6 auto MV6.... To tax, insure and MOT will cost circa £600 and that's a lot for a third car I use so rarely that I have to jump start it more often than not! ::)
All the best,
/malc.

I can completely understand we do not want fly-by-night posters selling things, but a quick check on my profile will show that I've been on here since 2006 - but that counts for nowt in the rules, and I can accept that. :)
Glad Grumpy Cat amused! :y
Thanks

I saw that :o,hardly makes you a newbie does it ???,I know rules are rules but its pretty obvious you didn't join up just to sell a car ::) :y

We haven't the time (or will, if I'm entirely honest :-[) to vet every For Sale ad, and time based membership cannot be automated without some fairly heavy modifications to the software.
and I can accept that. :)
Thats the spirit :y
