Waste of time imho... sure it will rev a bit quicker, but you'll find it won't hold speed uphill as well as a car with a standard flywheel

It will rev a bit quicker when in neutral, but not when the clutch is engaged and "attached" to the weight of the rest of the car. Useful for blipping the throttle when going down through the gears, but imo not useful in any other way.

No offence to the 2 Al's but i don't see where an opinion is asked for? Gets my goat that does!

In response to your question, the best person to ask is Serek as i believe he has already done this conversion... I have the C20LET flywheel skimmed and the spacer for the slave cylinder ready to go, i just need to sort out a clutch too  :y

Good luck with it, if you manage to complete this before i do, let me know how it goes  8)

Fair point but fitting one has only one benefit...

Being able to say "I've got a lightened fly wheel in my car" ::)

Too much lighter and it will affect the way the engine runs :-\

corr if id have known all this a few years back, could have built more wining track/stage cars buy not having, the engines lightened etc, also think of the money all race teams could save knowing that.

it helps with exit speed from corners, also less reciprocating weight, enginge revs easier, and lighter engine.
 that's just a few reasons.

But this is an Omega ::) 5-10 kilos off a car that is knocking on the door of two tonnes is almost irrelevant...

I made an assumption, perhaps wrongly, that the engine was just a standard lump and would remain as such, and that the car would still have an interior, glass windows and steel panels :-\

Might only be 10kgs, but as a famous shop says "ever little helps" :)

I haven't. But I'll put money on you never having used a GM 54' V6 as a base for one ::)

MSD in Milton Keynes built the engines for the vectra challenge back in the 90's, think Swindon who built the touring car engines for the astra,vectra,manta400,etc still build the V6 as a race engine and zakspeed in the fatherland did some research when the omega dtm project was started to replace the evo500 carlton/omegaA.

Were'nt around when I was racing, but thats one of the mods would do to it if I was going to use it as a base for racing ;)
