Title: Changing ABS ECU
Post by: TheBoy on 07 November 2013, 17:43:40
Does it need special tools, or can I get by with my pleb's 120pc Hellfrauds socket set?

Long T20 torx driver bit (ideally 75mm) then swing the power steering reservoir to one side, remove battery and unplug the 3 round multiplugs.

Should be fine with the fisher price set, should just about get the little torx screws with the socket.

May need the treble jointed hand extension if it's getting done in situ though

See my half hour method as posted recently, now on page 3 JamesQ thread Damn ECU second page. No special tools required.

No need to empty Power Steering Fluid IMO, as Rob says just move it out of the way. remove 13mm Nut NS and loosen 13mm Nut OS, cant remember if the Torx / Allen bolt needs to come off at the back, gentle lifting the entire ABS unit intact just an inch at the front will aid removing the lower two Torx bolts.

About time ;D

Mpg figures should improve and your arms will appreciate the rest :y

Damp roundabouts might suddenly seem dull though ::)

Should also say thanks to Zirk for being able to get me the ECU at short notice, and make himself available so I could swing by to pick it up returning from one of my many jaunts out over the past few weeks - great to see you again, and thanks for the brew :y

I must have driven past that truck stop hundreds of times, never knew it existed :o

Yep, and Insurance wise try not to write it off while crashing into someone with the bag over the ABS module,  ;)

No problem TB, your welcome and good to meet up again. :y

For those passing J26 / M25 at any time, its called the "Junction 26 Dinner", Truck Stop, Breakfast is good, day times a bit naff if Im honest, although Tea and Bacon Butty always goes down well, but after 5.30 or so in the the evening, proper Home Cooked Food, on a big plate for Truckers and all that stuff, well worth a visit if your a bit peck'ish.  :y :y
