Title: Just Fitted Diss pack now.another fault.
Post by: footloose on 08 November 2013, 16:02:41
Hello.  Today I have just finished fitting a diss pack.
Got in to the car and started it and she started fine and ran for a while. I the switched off cleared up my tools etc . Got back into the car, turned on and fired. the revs and stopped keeps doing the same.  The EML light comes on but no codes showing apart from 12,12,12. then 31 three times and back to 12 again.
suggestions would be appreciated.
Apart from anything to do with the scrap man.

Leads must be ok as it fired up immediately when I first started it up. It was after I switched off and on a bit later that the engine wouldn't run. and the engine light came on.

I will try it. Though I am beginning to suspect a vacuum pipe somewhere.

Have you read the guide Motronic 2.8.1 (V6 Engines) fault codes (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90524.0) ?
Quote
31   No Engine RPM Signal

Was the engine running when you read the codes? 31 is normal when the engine isn't running (so not a very helpful code).

I am a little worried that the lead to the crank sensor may have been stressed while you were wrestling with the coil pack. When they fail they can work intermittently. When they are working the revcounter needle moves and the warning lights go out (even at cranking speed/rpm). If the lights stay on and the needle doesn't move then it is time for a new sensor :(

Found it. What a plonker. I got under the bonnet this morning as I had come to the conclusion that a vac. pipe must be off somewhere and while checking around discovered that the idler speed valve had fallen out of the plenum. I had forgotten to put the screw back and it had dropped out. I've put it back and now runs fine.
Thanks for all your suggestions people it all helped me to suss it out.
