Title: Coolant loss?
Post by: blackviper90210 on 16 November 2013, 12:11:50
I had topped it up 2 weeks ago when I picked her up and thought no more.

Just checked the coolant level and has dropped quite a bit ???

Cannot see any leaking under the car, oil is clear and passenger footwell dry.

Wondering if the loss of coolant maybe linked to only having warm, not hot air through the central vents only and cold through the others?

I would also go with HBV.

I had the same problem myself for almost 9 months and the previous owner had it previously. Random loss as well, but was certainly glad of the low coolant sensor. Eventually, parked it up one evening after work fine, came out next morning, low coolant light on straight away. Rad bottle empty. Filled it up, drove 15 out of the 25 motorway miles to work and "low coolant" flashed up again. Got to work, coolant bottle empty. No water on floor though.

Filled it up at lunchtime, nothing leaking. Turned climate system on (any setting), and water poured out from under the car from the HBV. Turning system off stopped it immediately.

If you put a small bowl under the HBV and run the car up, playing with settings on the climate unit randomly at 30 second intervals, I suspect you will find water in the bowl within 5 minutes.

Will try that tomorrow then, thanks for the heads up on that one! :y
