Before The Boy comes along, I think you are referring to the viscous fan, which he will advise to remove and throw away as noisy and un-needed. I have owned the same model car for 14 years and I remove the viscous fan in the winter, but re-fit in summer, (its only a 15 minute job, but remind your Dad it has a LH thread!) as I have sometimes seen the temp get a bit too hot. Also there is no need to refit the fan cowling, it makes no difference since I removed mine 2 years ago. I have not replaced my radiator yet, so cannot advise on the best replacement, other than from a dealer, which will no doubt be expensive. Someone will be along in a minute with advice on the rad. :y :y :y

Further to my last, when your Dad fits the new parts, it is a good opportunity to replace the water pump, if original, which is plastic, for a more robust after market job. Also the thermostat while he has it drained and accessible. Both these are easy jobs, with How-To's in the Maintenance guides. :y :y :y
