Hi, can anyone confirm the correct part number for the thermostat assembly for my 2001, Y plate Omega 2.6. I think it is 90502201 but just wanted to be sure first. Thanks. :)

The one of my 2003 3.2 petrol saloon is 24420652, I have just changed mine and the old one is in my hand as I write. It's the number on the Autovox website for most of the V6 Omegas, but not on the one they sent me! . Theirs fitted all right and seems to work. Good luck with the B-bolt, and with getting the transfer pipe out of the old thermosat.

This part number is the correct one...

:y
Perfect fit, correct thickness, no nonsense.

A new genuine transfer pipe is on its way to me now just to be prepared, so no worries there, B bolt might be fun, but I served my time as an engineer when I left school so can usually deal with most problems, I've always done all my own mechanical maintenance/repairs, etc myself including complete engine rebuilds on cars and motorcycles, so It shouldn't beat me. Strange how many different part numbers come up when searching for the stat housing. :)

Search the part numbers from here...
http://oemcats.com/
Then rummage around ebay.co.uk, ebay.de and ebay.com to locate the relevant part :y
Just to add, the likes of AutoVaux rarely sell genuine parts, regardless of their blurb :-\

thanks for the info on part numbers, the main difference appears to be the thickness of the base of the stat housing where the mounting bolts go through. Now, I really dont want to start stripping the car until I have all the parts, so its a bit awkward as I cant see any way of visually confirming which one is fitted just now without pulling it apart.
-
Someone else might be able to confirm, but I believe the DBW V6s have the thicker base :-\
-
Well mine is a Drive By Wire, so hopefully that might narrow it down. engine no in my service booklet is Y26SE-08565211 if that helps.

I did the thermostat on my 2.6, 2001 earlier this year and used the dealer for parts (new seals too etc). The part number on the invoice is 90502201. The replacement unit was the same and fitted with no issues.

Likewise on my 3.0 MFL :y

Andy B and allen25, can you remember if the base of the stat where the bolts go through was the thick or thin type. Thanks bikerdon. :)

The key part being 'dealer supplied' :y the part number discrepancies may well be engine or chassis number related :-\
The key thing being to identify the part number of what was fitted new to your car, and replacing accordingly :y

Having only done one 'stat I've nothing to compare it with ...... ;) but I think it was around 1/4" thick

I can't actually remember but I'm sure I used the same bolts to re-fit. As a guess though and please don't totally rely on it, the base was substantial and probably 5mm thick. If it is engine and chassis related it could be worth checking the part number with the Dealer before deciding where to purchase?

Same here

Replaced mine around year ago with Wahl from Vauxworld as advised on forum..sma size body and fitted back as that removed but was a MFL.
Might be a better option for somebody with access to TIS to see if they list 2 different bolt lenghts as that way for the price of a couple of bolts you have then covered every option..well unlee you decide to cut the existing down if your new stat is a thinbod and original is a thicker
-
Get it from a dealer, and they will give you the correct one. They changed supplier so many times they have a list of superseded parts as long as your arm for the stat. You should then also get the correct length bolts to match the thickness of that particular casting.

Doesn't really matter if housing is not right thickness flange as you can swap the 'guts' over.
How I ended up doing it about 24 months ago and no issues since

or cut the bolt down or add a couple of washers under the head of the bolt ;)

Or just get the correct part in the first place! Jeez ::)
;D

Ok guys, after some major contortions under the bonnet using a small flexible inspection mirror and an led torch I've finally been able to confirm it's the thinner flanged stat housing fitted on the car. So new one ordered up today. Thanks for all the advice given. Sure I'll be back on soon asking advice on other issues too.

Hi all, thermostat has now been replaced, the maintenance guides and pictures on this site were a great help, the B(arstard) bolt was one to get out but was no problem to refit, seems like some neanderthal had been in there before me, large amounts of black sealing goop on the stat mating faces as well as the rubber seal, and the bracket on the transfer pipe was sheared off too, (glad I took the advice and ordered a new one along with the stat). Also found that the frontmost torx socket securing the injector manifold to the sandwich plate had been replaced with a 13mm hex head bolt, and the brass insert in the sandwich plate was looking a bit chewed up. I decided to just nip it up tight and not apply the full torque of 20nm as it felt ready to strip, Anyway no air or coolant leaks and all running spot on now. I will replace the front manifold fixing properly when I fit the timing belt kit.
