Title: Unofficial OOF Xmas bash, 21st Dec
Post by: TheBoy on 24 November 2013, 13:04:46
Obviously its Brakkers curry. Either Tiffins, Chilli & Pepper, or the posh place that I've never made it in to.

I think the useless student is up for it, as he suggested on another thread, plus we discussed it when he popped round the other day. Girlies/Partners etc invited.

As I'll likely need to book PDQ, prompt response needed.

Merci Bucket mon ami

You can set it to auto lock which means no-one but you can disconnect it until the charging is complete.

And yes Steve, one at a time but I have only had to wait once so far as 30 mins rapid charge gives you 80% from empty and about 60+ miles

Well, that needs sorting if they want us all to go green.

I was chatting to a bloke from Ecotricity a couple of weeks back and he said that they and Source London were going to double the number of charging points they currently have in the city, which is already pretty good.

Tiffins booked, 8pm, Sat 21st Dec, currently for 17. If anyone else wants to come, shout up ASAP, as obviously most places are getting busy on the Saturday before Christmas.

The only hotel in Brackley is The Crown, virtually next door to Tiffins. This hotel has a bad reputation on OOF following the Brackley Cambelt do a few years ago, can't remember why? Lazydocker has stayed there more recently, so may be worth dropping him a PM for comments. Its an old coaching inn, so rooms are likely to be quite small and full of character quirky.

Next nearest hotels are the Travelodge at Cherwell Services on the M40 (5-6 miles), Premier Inn at Brackley Hatch on A43 (5 miles, may be known as Silverstone), or Holiday Inn Express at Banbury by Jnc 11 (10 miles). Obviously all these will need taxi or designated driver.

I will nip down to Tourist Info later to see if I can get any B&B/Guesthouses info in town.

I have a spare room here, and seperate lounge and dining room if anyone wants to bring an airbed. First priority to Admin Team, past or present, then in post count order.

Anyone wishing to do some shopping whilst here, Milton Keynes shopping centre (The Centre:MK) is about 25 miles, Banbury (smaller shops, more independent, but with a few big stores), about 11 miles, Bicester Village (Designer Outlet) about 10 miles.

What time are people arriving? I understand little fatty needs work doing to the rusty bullet, as there has been a build up in jobs to do. I'm going to send my 3.2 to be MOT'd that Saturday, I need to polish the headlights on the 2.2 but other than that no serious work for me. Although finding that blend flap on the 3.2, would prove useful.

Is anyone else doing work? Do I need to prepare MotherT & FatherT for an influx of Omega's and work done?

Parking not usually a problem, but that is for one. If there are say 10, could be fun. Could always park near TBs or mine and we all go down in a few cars.

As the Tunster says, there is a small car park opposite, but usually quite full. If you look on Google maps (map, not satelite), the car park is between Market Place and Market Place. Tiffins is just across the road. Further parking is in the 2 narrow High Street roads either side of the main High Street.

Easier parking is available in Waitrose (from Tiffins, got down Market Place, turn right into Banbury Road, right into Manor Road, right into the unamed road (this is the Waitrose carpark). To walk from carpark, walk to Waitrose store entrance, along side of store, and there is an alleyway which brings you out into Marketplace, turn left up towards Tiffins. (Walk is in red on map below).

Parking options in town highlighted yellow on map, Tiffins is blue T, Crown is blue H

That's advisable. I used to regularly travel all the way to Leicester for a curry (well, actually it was an Indian grill) so I'm not adverse to travelling good distance for the perfect Ruby Murray.

Tunnie and I were planning some tinkering at his during the day.

The Crown's bar does Old Hookey IIRC, for those that like treacle beers, and Stella for lager (I have a rule not to drink Stella on draft, so can't comment). Red Lion is opposite, Fosters and Carling for lager, and I don't think any hand pull ales.  Head up the hill, and you have the lively kids pub at the traffic lights (can't remember its name, Rose & Crown?), but does tend to get overrun by (very) young lads who get rawdy after half a weak shandy. Entertaining though. Further along are the Greyhound and the Bell, again quite lively, and some years just before Xmas, the Greyhound bargirls dress up as Santas little helpers...  ...and I order anything from the bottom shelf in the fridges ;D

The Locomotive back down towards Mercedes GP/Tesco is a bit, errr, inbred, best avoided, and I think the Fox is currently shut. My local, The Chequered Flag, is a typical estate pub, but I was barred years ago, so obviously can't comment  :-X

Its not a bad place to spend a Saturday evening, as we rarely get trouble or things out of hand, unlike many towns.

In essence, I'll easy what peeps what to do - suspect I'll be tinkering until such time as light fades, but happy to go out for a swift one after, before curry. Depends what people have in mind.

As for meeting up/times, I'm easy.

Given the weather uncertainty, tunnie and I may be finished earlier than originally planned, so do people want to meet up a bit earlier? Either here, or down in town?  If so, I'm sure tunnie and I can work to a tighter deadline, or have another go Sunday ;D

Ideally, I'd like to get the wishbones and the new rear springs on the Bullet, so I can take both cars to WIM shortly after Xmas. Next priority beyond that is giving both an oil change, as the treacle in there has been in there far too long  :-[

Sunday certainly looks like better weather, also better for springs as much more space outside on drive to do that. As that needs to be done with both sides in the air.

Look at doing wishbones in the garage? As space then is less of an issue?

That joshwyatt goes mental when the lime pickle arrives. He' ain't got all his dogs on one lead, but we knew that already ;D

How can you not like lime pickle with some poppadoms, followed by a gulp of Cobra  :o

WHAT????? Finding two in one night!!!!!! That makes 3 in total in the whole world that eat it  ;D

Mango chutney, mint sauce, onion salad and the red spicy one for me. but zero lime pickle. sickos  ;D

What plate/engine?

Work mates 2.0 TDi A6 goes well enough for me, but that was 2012 car.

Haha, he may find it too fast  :o

Sold now though. He can have a Grand Vitara, Sharan TDI, Volvo S60, multiple Range Rover's or x2 Arnage's.

I don't know how well 6.75's take to LPG, I think the PPM would be scary  ::)

It was an 07/07, it turned out the alternator was a bit naff, gearbox had odd signals and was very slow. All fixed, and then was suprisingly brisk!

In a couple of years which the facelifted ones have dropped a bit more, I could be tempted by a tractor version of a RR - I was really impressed with its waftability, and the fact it didn't encourage me to be a hooligan. The last RR I drove was probably your old supercharged one, and I don't think I could ever of driven that sensibly.

Oddly, based on expectations, I was impressed with the tractor one, and less impressed with the supercharged V8. Weird, isn't it?

You do get a nice feeling when you often see the bonnet of your car, is higher than the roof of the car in front  ;D

Have to agree though, Arm chairs to sit in. Very very nice  8)

Wish I'd had a go with it working properly...  ...although even when using the flappy paddles, it was still below my expectations for a 160bhp car, compared to the older 1.9TDi variants I've driven before (in A4 cars).

I was specifically talking about the tractor version. Even joshwyatt comment on how sensible I was driving.

A V8 one would result in a quick loss of licence, as its "encouraging".

I agree TB & Tunnie!
The SC was a great car, but it managed on average 19mpg and having the 400bhp made it easy to overtake most things. Whereas the TD6, it simply can't do that...and you can drive far more sedately. I thought Jaime was having a heart attack, he was driving that slowly  ::)
The SC, with tinted windows does look a bit drug dealer...this was the one you'd driven;

It must be said though TB, this is the ideal vehicle for you;
76bhp and the best part of 2.8 tonnes.
I always enjoyed driving this, it was painfully slow but you can't beat an armoured van  :o

We made it home safe after a quick 30 min juice-up which happily coincided with a toilet break.  The residents of Wheatly may have had a few brown-outs though while I was happily sat on my throne ;D

Thanks to everyone who played a part in organising it, myself and Mrs G thoroughly enjoyed it.  Hopefully now that she has seen that we are nice normal people she will hopefully come along to other meets where the ladies can take part :y

Very nice .. help yourself to cereals/fruit juice; full English fry up ( bacon, sausage, hashbrown, beans, blackpudding, tomato, mushrooms, fried egg); toast, unlimited coffee - which was surprisingly drinkable as usually it's been sat on the heater for so long it's tasteless - so pretty good all round.

Only complaint of the hotel is "noisy Brackley" !!! cars/people talking shouting/ clock chiming .... don't they do "peace and quiet" ??? - didn't bother me ( rule is head/pillow/sleep) but Mrs E was kept awake a fair bit (apparently)  .. :)

My apologies for not making it, after cleaning up the garage after TB's wishbones were done. I spent then next 90 mins searching for the garage keys. (Today found in Gixers car!) In the process of searching I suddenly just hit a wall if tiredness. Yes lame i know  :-[

But since the start of the month, I've had just a single day off. I've been working my new job plus old one since start of December. Working quite late for new job, as its a new challenge + 10hr shifts at the old position. Getting up at 6:30 every day for about 20 days straight took its toll  :-[

I would not have been best of company, combined with fact that alcohol makes me sleepy at the best if times, I felt I should pass. Shame ask really needed a good curry  :-[
