Title: MPG
Post by: Mr.OmegaMan on 24 November 2013, 18:43:51
I've noticed recently (going by the trip computer) that my avarage MPG has gone down from 26-28mpg to around 20-23mpg, Going the same route roughly 27 miles each way, Nothing different in the driving patern apart from having the hid lights on and heated seat on.. I have reset the computer before setting off and before heading back... Do these really use that much or could it be the cold weather even or something else  ???

Yep, Had a service Mid June 2013 along with oil, spark plugs etc.. GM parts. It had a fuel filter just over a month ago.

So I need a dirty air filter  ;D

In all fairness it's been fine on MPG till the clocks went back and it started to get cold. Even hit 31mpg at one point. That's if the trip computer can be trusted.

Could it be down the fact the car is working harder with heating on, lights on, engine colder etc ?  ;)

Just a guess but what do I know?  :D  ;D

You'd be surprised what cold weather, heated seats ect can do to fuel economy

Even with a new thermostat, mine is barely doing 23mpg ::)

Don't worry about it, as it'll be fine in a few weeks when the clocks go forward again!  :)

I'm averaging 25.8mpg according the computer. Not bad considering how I drive  ;D ;D ;D

My 2.6 has always returned 30mpg on my daily commute , however for the first time  last week I have started using the heated  seat & also changed the air filter in June.. My consumption is now 28mpg, so must be the combination of both.

It doesn't take much for it to drop or increase. Mines current on 29.4 mpg but I've done about 5 miles in the last month ;D

Its winter--so you got more electrics running-which drags alternater=more fuel used :y :y

Yep most likely this  :y

Still not bad mpg i suppose going by what some are getting from their 3.2s, Just going to have to lay off the heated seats and drive with no lights and heater off  ;D

It is due for another dose of Cataclean mind, Last bottle 3 moths ago tomorrow, Does say to do it every 3 months and did notice some improvements overall with idling and mpg.

That said it's been doing alot of idling lately, which kills the average. A proper run is more like 28mpg :y

Plus, as it's cold you put the heating on.... this takes warmth from the coolant, thus it's getting up to temperature slower, thus using more fuel :)
