Hi. I bought a 2000 omega 2.0 cd today for the in laws. I paid just £600 for it. Full service history, full MOT and 5 months tax...not bad I think. Anyway I know there are a couple of faults.
One is the temp gauge does not move - i have had several Vectras with the X20XEV engine so I assume it is a duff thermostat. Tracking needs doing as it pulls to the left.
There is a button on the side of the drivers seat. What is it for as when pressed nothing happens but a slight click?
Are there any other things I should look out for as i want this to be a fully functional problem free vehicle for them.

Yes, sounds like stat.
Not sure about seat - suspect it is for height adjustment but not working?

Whilst not cheap with an mot it's ok. Button is for the electric height adjustment.

Before getting the tracking done, thoroughly check all the front suspension components for wear/tired bushes. Once sorted, take it to Wheels In Motion (WIM) for a full and proper set up. Then new tyres. It will save alot of time/aggro/cash in the long run :y
The seat is an easy fix, have a read through the Maintenance Guides :y

The tyres are just about new. I have told them to take it to get it tracked but I think I will have to do it as the last four cars they have had fell to bits due to not listening to me.. I will fit a new stat next week I think.

Put the word "tracking" completely out of your mind, and replace it with "full geometric set up"
Tracking is only one parameter of three adjustable settings on the front of the omega. There's one tie rod at the back that combines the rear toe and camber settings.
5 settings that ALL need to be correct to keep a proverbial jelly on a plate out of the ditch or oncoming traffic.
Those tyres won't stay new for long if its pulling, keep a VERY keen eye on the inside edge wear of both front tyres until its set correctly. Most of us have been there before, and seen cords hanging out an almost new tyre due to poor set up and a car trade completely ignorant of the word "camber" when it comes to tyre wear.

1 Inspect
2 Rectify
3 Set up
4 THEN fit new tyres.
If yours is pulling, its a fair bet the previous owner has missed 1,2 and 3 completely.

Check the single spade connector on gauge sender unit at rear of engine by dispack

Right. Seat fixed. Thermostat changed and now ok. The power mirror switches were a biy dodgy so I cleaned them up with contact spray now they are ok.
The only other thing I have noticed (other than geometry) is a rattle or rumble from around the alternator area- poss bad bearings. I will look closer at that later but I have to say it seems like a good vehicle for the money. Tempted to sell my 5 series and get a 3.2 ....
