Title: Virgin Media Result
Post by: AndyRoid on 25 November 2013, 12:01:00
So the other day I decide I've had enough of paying £68 per month to watch the repeats on an almost daily basis and gave VM their marching orders to disconnect all services (inc phone & broadband), especially as they are having a price hike very shortly.

Less than 48 hours later I get a call from retentions and ended up getting the same as we have now (XL TV with Tivo downstairs and V+HD upstairs, Talk Unlimited phone with CLID, and XXL Broadband) for £52.46 per month inc VAT.

Obviously I accepted the new price, but why do companies make you go through the whole termination process just to call you back in a couple of days when they could just offer you the new price straight from the off?

Yep, I think they do, Breakdown cover and Car Insurance seem to be the same, think the worst offenders are the Mobile Phone Resellers, had to almost threaten suicide by cutting my head off with Vodafone before they offered me the deal I asked them for in the first place and have to painfully go through it every year with them.  >:(

Virgin did similar for me, although they just rang out of the blue.

They asked if I wanted to go from 20Mb to 30Mb, get free TiVo box (upgrade from older platform) and get a phone line (which I never use) for £2.50 less a month than I was paying?

Took them up on it, cancelled now as moved out.

Think I might be going with BT when I get the new place, MotherT & FatherT get my free Sky  :)

I did the same also. Genuinely thinking of leaving and they put me on the Xxl package for nowt.

A lot of customers do the 12 month cheap deal, threaten to leave and then get freebies to stay. Common knowledge I suppose and knowing how to play the system in some respects.

....they want to fleece customers to the max.

Thier all at it. Energy company's , the lot. There's always a negotiable profit margin, always.

Sky where the same. We cancelled, got a call, offered 50% off all packages. I said throw in a new terabyte box and you have a deal. They baulked at that but relented with new TB box and 25% off all packages. I said "see, you can do it after all" ;D

They didn't even bother trying to appease us on broadband. And I'm pleased. Virgin broadband is rock steady. Can't fault it. :y

We just don't barter or haggle in this country. Either eccepting the offered price or not. We should push them more from the outset IMO. :)

Same here. Sky down from £102 to £55 with just the loss of two mutiroom boxes (which still operate as freesat boxes). Only for 9 months, but they'll be getting grief from me when that's up.
Well done all, keep the bastuds honest  :y

So about £31. For £24 more I'm getting sky+HD with sky sports. Not bad really.

Thinking about it now, I'm paying too much.

I'm going to check out Plusnet. That should save me about £15 a month. :y

I have 2 physical phone lines, and 2 fibre broadbands, and good ol' Freeview TV, and I pay out around £22.50.

I can live with that.

As far as I know, the only way to get a BT line is via a drop wire from the pole or such. £150 last time I asked.

Do you already have a BT line in the property?

If so, you can get connected for £30 if you sign up for an 18 month contract (BT won't tell you that, but it's in their T&C's).
If you don't have an existing BT line, then it's going to cost you £150 to get connected regardless of whether you go for 12 months or 18 months.

Is there a BT socket anywhere in the house?
Is there a BT drop cable waiting by the front door (or wherever) your Virgin phone line comes in?

If it from the pole to your house you should be OK. BT are desperate for your custom so don't let them bullshit you. I got a line put in for my mum last year for nowt.
