Anyone else see this?
Just catching up with it, as I now have a 40 min train commute. It's a reality series on an Essex car dealer, one "customer" who walked in was young chap, 21, Assistant Manager at Mothercare.
He was looking to buy a Range Rover Sport, up for £21k. Test drive all ok, yes lets buy it.
What have you got to trade sir?
"A 1 year old Nissan Qashqai"
What do you want for it?
"£15k"
Turns out he bought Nissan on finance , paying £400/m :o still owing £18k on a purchase price of £19k. :o Apparently he had spent over £4.5k over the course of a year, only paying off £1k on the value of the car. It's value being about £15k
So not only does he have £400/m finance, he has depreciation... £2k a year? (£160/m) + interest? (say £200/m?) So rough guess he is paying/loosing £7 or 8k a year for that car? :o :o :o - At a cost of £700 or £800 a month? :o
... and to think I hated having to pay for rear brake pipes at £40 ;D ;D ;D

Yep seen it when it aired couple of months ago. What a bunch of plonkers! Wonder how much the turnover has dipped since it was 1st on

I saw it a few months back too. It made for good viewing ....... but not for the right reasons for the car dealership ::)

The family with a young girl that really really wanted the MiniOne springs to mind. Dad was adamant they weren't buying at the price the dealership wanted. He was brow beaten into submission & the Mum and daughter got what they wanted at the price the dealership wanted.

I remember that one. The sales guy was very good at pulling Mum's heartstrings! "Oh look at her little face" he kept saying when Dad said "No!" ;D
I worked for a similar outfit in the distant past and the advice I'd give when in a place like that, is when in the office with the salesman doing the negotiations, if he says something like "Tell you what I'll give you a few minutes to have a chat about it. Can I get you a cuppa?" Don't talk about the deal in the office, go back outside so you can be on your own. ;)
The reason? They might have a microphone in the office and the salesman is listening to your discussion with SWMBO, with his manager! :-X

About 18 months/2 years back I went to a Vx main dealer with my SIL to hold her hand when buying a run of the mill diseasal Astra. The dealer played just about every trick in the book over the sale, ie I just need to ask the boss etc etc and left us for what seemed like ages in the showroom. In the end it came down to a measly £100 on an £8 grand car that they'd f***ed up on over the lack of trade in car. We got up and walked on principle. The phoned her up before we got home to say that they would actually knock the £100 off ......barstewards!
If a main dealer is taking the pi$$, then it doesn't surprise me that the high street dealers are too
